SILVER STATE CONFIDENTIAL 05/28/2015

EXCLUSIVE PHOTO OF GOP STRATEGY SESSION!

What happens in Carson City doesn’t stay in Carson City.

I still can’t believe I obtained this exclusive, never-seen-before photograph of Assembly Speaker John Hambrick, Assembly Majority Leader Paul Anderson and Assemblyman Chris “Let’s Make a Deal” Edwards huddled up in a private strategy session at Lake Tahoe last week to hammer out their plan to pass the Largest Tax Hike in Nevada history.

They say a picture’s worth a thousand words…but I’d say this one is worth about $1.3 billion!

Scroll down to the end of today’s newsletter to see it...

GAME ON!

The final epic battle in the 2015 Mother of All Tax Hikes war is now fully engaged, with Gov. Brian Sandoval, “America’s Worst Governor,” unleashing this week a battalion of high-priced lobbyists, corporate shills and government apparatchiks to pummel legislators into submission and subservience.

Make no mistake: The taxpayers of Nevada are David in this David and Goliath face-off.

Ah, but we ain’t about to go down without a fight.  And we ain’t fightin’ without beers…

BOB BEERS, that is!

The conservative Las Vegas city councilman and leader of the “Lean 15” back in 2003  has recorded a robocall urging citizens in targeted Assembly districts to contact wishy-washy Republicans and tell them to vote “No” on the tax hikes.

Here’s the script…

“This is former State Senator Bob Beers with an important voter alert. In 2003 I led the fight against what was then the largest tax increase in Nevada history. Now the Legislature is ready to do it again – with an even BIGGER tax hike.  Including a new gross receipts tax, just like the one voters rejected just last November.  Press 1 now to be connected directly to your state Assemblyman and tell him to vote “NO” on this billion dollar tax-and-spend budget.  Paid for by Citizen Outreach.”

And here’s the list of GOP fence-sitters who have not yet taken a position on the governor’s billion dollar tax hike baby…

  • Assemblyman Chris Edwards (natch!)
  • Assemblyman John Hambrick
  • Assemblyman Paul Anderson
  • Assemblyman Derek Armstrong
  • Assemblyman Lynn Stewart
  • Assemblywoman Melissa Woodbury
  • Assemblyman Pat “RINO” Hickey
  • Assemblyman Randy “Kirner Tax” Kirner
  • Assemblyman Steven Silberkraus
  • Assemblyman James Oscarson
  • Assemblyman Glen Trowbridge
  • Assemblyman P.K. O’Neil

The calls will begin around 9:00 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) morning.

This is where the rubber meets the road, folks.  We’ll never be able to match Sandoval & Company dollar-for-dollar, but “people power” is a great equalizer.

With any luck, we’ll at least be able to defeat SandRINOval’s gross receipts tax for the second time in less than a year!

We just need to make it easy and fast for busy people to take action.  Robocalls are great.  And while they’re inexpensive, they’re not free.  So please join the fight and kick in a few shillings…before it’s too late.

NEXT SEASON

When the end of the regular session of the 2015 Nevada Legislature arrives next Monday, it will be painfully and obviously clear that this was, indeed, the biggest blown opportunity in Nevada’s history by Republicans who never blow an opportunity to blow an opportunity.

And boy, do Republican leaders in Carson City blow!

Much like with the historic Republican takeover of Congress in 1994, the reason for this major league failure and missed opportunity in Nevada is simple…

While voters elected a Republican majority last November, they didn’t elect a conservative majority.

RINOs rule the roost.

Even a blind – um, sorry - I mean visually impaired man can now see that it’s not enough to simply elect more Republicans, you have to elect BETTER ones, as well.

So the mission is clear…

The strategy is simple…

The battlefield is known…

Conservatives need to focus on nominating more conservative candidates in the 2016 primaries.

It’s as simple as that.

So I have a question for you…

If you were to be invited to join an elite group of conservatives who would meet monthly to discuss strategies and tactics for electing more conservatives to the Nevada Legislature and advancing conservative legislation, which would be your meeting preference?

Breakfast meeting
Lunch meeting
Dinner meeting
After-dinner meeting
No preference

Left to right: Speaker John Hambrick, Majority Leader Paul Anderson, Assemblyman Chris Edwards.

Or is it Anderson, Edwards and Hambrick?  Or maybe it’s Edwards, Hambrick and Anderson.

Oh, geez…who can tell the difference?  They all have their heads up their…!

Now you know why this legislative session has been the BIGGEST blown opportunity for Republicans in the history of the Nevada Legislature.

THEY SAID IT...NOW WILL THEY LIVE IT?

“During each of the legislative sessions throughout the Great Recession, the Nevada Legislature has looked for ways to increase taxes… This is the wrong approach.” - Assemblyman Chris Edwards during the 2014 election campaign

“I am against raising property taxes or renewing taxes which have sunsetted.  Government should operate within its proper, limited scope and live within its current budgetary and tax scheme.” - Assemblyman Erv Nelson during the 2014 election campaign

“I believe that we need to remove ourselves from these ‘Sunset’ taxes, as originally intended, particularly as the economy continues to recover.” - Assemblyman P.K. O’Neill during the 2014 election campaign

“I oppose all three of these tax increases because each will have a negative impact on jobs and the state’s economy. The way to increase revenues is by increasing economic growth and making all of our citizens wealthier, not by raising taxes.” - Assemblyman Derek Armstrong during the 2014 election campaign

“Instead of always looking to raise taxes we must work on growing our economy…” - Assemblyman Stephen Silberkraus during the 2014 election campaign

“There are too many legislators that want to continue with the same old tax-and-spend policies.  If Nevada’s residents are being forced to cut back and spend their money wisely, then the government should do the same.” - Assemblywoman Melissa Woodbury during the 2014 election campaign
