SILVER STATE CONFIDENTIAL 05/07/2015

LET'S PLAY HARDBALL

I understand that Republicans in the Assembly haven’t been in the majority since 1984, but still…they know how the game is played.

If you oppose a bill and can vote “no” on it in committee and, with your “no” vote, kill the bill…you should vote “no” and kill the bill.

Unfortunately, we have some “nice guy” Republicans in the Legislature who are voting “yes” for bills they oppose in committee just to be “fair” and let the bill move to the Assembly floor…where they KNOW the votes exist to pass the bill they oppose.

This isn’t being “fair.”  This is being disingenuous.

If a legislator knows a bill he or she opposes will pass if it gets a floor vote and they nevertheless vote for the bill in committee, it’s the same as supporting the bill.

The problem isn’t that Republicans in the Assembly don’t know how to play the game.

The problem is Republicans in the Assembly don’t know how to play hardball.

THE MAGGOT AND THE WEASEL

As you may recall, Assemblyman Chris “Let’s Make a Deal” Edwards accidentally and inadvertently forwarded an email to me a couple weeks ago in which he called me a “maggot” for regularly slamming him for basically being an untrustworthy tax-hiking weasel.

I even proudly had this shirt made up to commemorate the honor!

But Edwards isn’t just a double-talking, two-faced weasel on the tax issue.  As I’ve said for years, Republicans who can’t get the tax issue right by signing the Taxpayer Protection Pledge are far more likely to get a whole lot of other issues wrong, as well.

And Edwards is proving my point…

AB281 is a bill that changes minor traffic tickets from a criminal offense to a civil offense.  It’s a common-sense, no-brainer bill that passed in the Assembly 40-2.  The two: Edwards and his running buddy, Assembly Higher Taxation Chairman Derek Armstrong-Anderson.

AB356 would allow businesses to take a picketer/demonstrator who breaks the law to court.  It passed the Assembly 23-19.  Edwards and union-stooge Assemblyman Lynn “The Bug Man” Stewart were the only Republicans who voted against the bill.

AB357 restores the civil rights, including the right to own a firearm, to a person who was convicted of a non-violent crime and completed their sentence.  It passed the Assembly 40-1.  Edwards was the only vote against the bill.

AB404 is a gun rights bill that clarifies certain provisions concerning renewing concealed carry permits and allowing CCW holders from other states who move here to continue carrying while waiting for their Nevada CCW.  It passed the Assembly 35-7.  Edwards was the only Republican who voted against the bill.

Edwards is no champion of gun rights.  And he’s no conservative.  Indeed, I’m not sure he even qualifies as a RINO.

He truly is just a weasel.

Then again, maybe I’m being too harsh.

Maybe he’s just a jackass.

DRIVE-BY MUTHINGS

This Sunday is Mother’s Day.  And since “Mr. Thoughtful” is my middle name, I went out and bought my wife, on behalf of our children…A BRAND NEW LAWNMOWER!

Sorry, ladies.  I’m already taken! :-)

Speaking of holidays, May 18 is National Visit Your Relatives Day.  PLEASE don’t tell any of my relatives from Baltimore!

Those who say the First Amendment shouldn’t apply to depictions of the Prophet Mohammed because they are offensive to Muslims are akin to “yelling fire in crowded theater” should turn in their U.S. citizenship cards and move to Dirka-Dirkastan.

Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina has signed the Taxpayer Protection Pledge which, according to Nevada pipsqueak Assemblyman Pat “The Appeaser” Hickey, “flies in the face of the American spirit of individualism and self-determination.”

According to her Wikipedia bio, “Fiorina was an executive at AT&T and its equipment and technology spinoff, Lucent, before being chief executive officer of Hewlett-Packard (HP) from 1999 to 2005” and “was considered one of the most powerful women in business during her time at Lucent and Hewlett-Packard.”

Comparing Fiorina’s background and experience to that of our tax-hiking/draft-dodging liberal legislator, I’m gonna go out on a limb and suggest she’s far more of an expert in the American spirit of individualism and self-determination than the Reno RINO ever will be.

As the saying goes, even a broken clock is correct twice a day.  And in that spirit, I have to say Jon Ralston (D-UI), Nevada’s #2 liberal blogger-with-a-taxpayer-subsidized-TV-show, is 100% correct when he tweeted on Thursday:

“I remain convinced that the greatest threat to American exceptionalism is the plague of people driving too slowly in the left lane.”

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“Raising taxes is a sign of incompetence in a politician. He/she cannot manage. A willingness to raise taxes is telegraphing such failure.” – Grover Norquist, president, Americans for Tax Reform
