SERMON - IS CHRIST'S RETURN IMMINENT ?

PART 1
Although there are men and women who are so audacious as to make known (their guess) the exact date of the end of the world we must not be taken in by these types. The ones voicing such predictions have many reasons for their actions. Either their greed for wealth, power over the minds of men and women, fulfillment of sexual desires sets forth but a few of their misguided reasons.
Matthew 24: 36"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Although no one knows the actual time of the end of the world is to come we are instructed to be ready all the time.
Matthew 24: 32"Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door.
The question is, are we “right at the door?”
Only God knows the answer but we may be closer than you realize.
As Jesus sat upon the Mount of Olives His disciples came to Him asking for the time upon which the end would come.
Matthew 26: 3As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. "Tell us," they said, "when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?"
The answer given is difficult to understand.
You may ask, ‘Why.’
This is addressed in Romans.
Romans 8: 7the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God's law, nor can it do so.
It is man’s human nature to sin and not want to submit to the type of laws that God has delivered to him. Unless men change their rebellious ways the end, although imminent, will be in God’s time, not man’s.
When Christ does return he will change the human nature of men and women and stop the deception wrought upon man at the time of this sermon. Currently the whole world is deceived and this includes many of the religious leaders. There are but a few that have their human natures changed by their denying sin to rule their lives.
Revelation 12: 9The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
Satan roams this world seeking to devour many souls. This devouring can be seen as deceiving through the many man made doctrines imposed on worshippers by the many religions claiming to be Christian yet are not! It is only when men are prepared to submit to God by surrendering to His will that He will return.
If Christ does return before too long it will be that He has determined that man just cannot rule in accordance to His will. It will be His imposition of His will upon mankind that will radically allow a change to men’s thinking that will allow proper rule by Jesus Himself as set forth in God’s Word.
Hebrews 2: 7You made him a little lower than the angels; you crowned him with glory and honor 8 and put everything under his feet." In putting everything under him, God left nothing that is not subject to him. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to him.
This means that Christ will save atheists, Hindus, Catholics, Protestants, Muslims and all of humanity as He sits in judgment of all.
Most of the religious men that preach what they pass off as ‘Christianity’ are themselves, confused. They preach their own thoughts instead of God’s Word. In doing so the message God has set forth is rejected and many people, thinking they are being taught truth are deceived!
Matthew 24: 4Jesus answered: "Watch out that no one deceives you. 5For many will come in my name, claiming, 'I am the Christ, and will deceive many.
The failure of men that claim to teach true Christianity lies in their failure to understand that Matthew 24 is one of the most prophetic messages Christ gave while here on earth. Although they continually preach of the Person of Christ they fail in preaching Christ’s message set forth in Matthew.
Christ taught of the wars, famines, pestilence and natural disasters (earthquakes, hurricanes, etc) that lead up to the sign of His second coming.
Matthew 24: 6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. 7Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8All these are the beginning of birth pains.
Many claim that the current wars and calamities are those spoken of but fail to see that there are far worse terrors ahead. I fear the wars to come will be ever increasing in violence and destruction thereby hastening Christ’s return.
Brothers and sisters this will be but the beginning of the sorrows we must face. There will be thousands of so-called Christians (lukewarm) killed or hated. We must prepare ourselves physically and most of all, spiritually as we are truly the hatednChristians.
Matthew 24: 9"Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. 10At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other,
Believe you when I say, earthly death, however set upon you, will be far less severe than spiritual death. Pain and anguish of our earthly bodies can last only a short while. Paradise is forever!
Many false prophets, both religious as well as secular will deceive and be the persecutors as they are led by Satan!
Matthew 24: 10At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, 11and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.
You and I are among those that are hated and this is sad. However those that are among the lukewarm and weak of faith will be subjected to persecution as well. They will fall from grace.
Matthew 24: 12Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13but he who stands firm to the end will be saved.
When love grows cold it doesn’t do that instantly. It starts out hot, gets warm then lukewarm. This is the stage where so many begin to turn on the righteous and wickedly attack them. I am very aware of the ‘lukewarm’ stage as I have had ‘friends’ that had been ordained but began to preach ‘Christianity’ in such a manner so as to entertain their congregations instead of teaching them truth. When I continued to preach God’s Good News and the need of repentance these same ‘friends’ became cold to me and even began to speak out against the Christianity I preach.
The ‘saved’ spoken of is not the ‘saved’ so many claim to be possessed of. The truly saved are those that have truly repented to God and from the wickedness of men.
I ask each of you to remain strong in your faith, do not fall prey to any that would teach you anything not in God’s Word. Have any that seek to teach you prove every lesson taught with Bible proof!
In ensuing sermons I will continue to give you my interpretation of the question raised in this sermons title. That title being, “Is Christ’s Return Imminent?”
PART 2
We now will read Matthew and learn things we might not have thought through to gain the true meanings Jesus related to His disciples as He was speaking to them about the end of the world.
Matthew 24: 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
The ‘end’ spoken about in this verse does not equate with the ‘end’ as it relates to the world ending. The ‘end’ spoken of in Verse 14 refers to the ‘end of the gospel being spread throughout the world.’
We see many countries, sadly including our own, enacting laws or interpreting their existing laws that seek to and actually stop the Gospel or anything referring to God as legally protected. This is the true ‘end’ as referenced in Matthew 24:14.
Matthew 24: 15"So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation, spoken of through the prophet
.
Now we are being told the sign of Christ’s Second Coming and the end of the world.
The Holy Place is Jerusalem ; ‘Abomination,’ is defined as, ‘extreme disgust,’ and ‘desolation,’ as ‘devastation, ruin,’ to make clear my next words. Today we see the rampant sin as Jerusalem is defiled by sex shops and outright filthy dealings. God must weep seeing His Holy Place being so utterly subjected to ruin. With this now said, you should ‘understand.’
Now let’s look at Luke.
Luke 21: 20"When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near.
In our lifetimes we see Lebanon , Syria , the Palestinians and Iran all seeking the destruction of Israel . The armies of these nations have all sworn to eradicate Israel from existence. There is even a threat of nuclear weaponry being used!
Matthew 24: 16then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house. 18Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. 19How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath.
The first-century Christians were convinced Christ would return in their lifetime. Their country was being destroyed and other scripture on the Old Testament convinced them of this thought. There were Christians forced to flee from Pella in 70 A.D. but this was only a type of action required of God’s people that were being persecuted. What will be faced by Christians shortly before the Great Tribulation will be the ‘desolation’ of Jerusalem .
Heed the Word of God and flee, you that are of God’s children. The time of great destruction nears.
Matthew 24: 21For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. 22If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. 23At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it.
We, the elders of us, lived through World War ll, the Korean conflict, Viet Nam , the Gulf War and now war in Afghanistan and Iraq . But, God’s Word says: ‘distress, unequaled from the beginning!”
Hiroshima and Nagasaki will be no worse than what is to come! God said so!
Not everyone will die as Scripture reads, “for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.” However they will be subjected to further strife as they witness the many, ‘false messiahs,’ that will rear their heads and deliver their filth of doctrines not worthy of God.
Matthew 24: 24For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. 25See, I have told you ahead of time. 26"So if anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it.
The Word is clear as we are warned of the imposters that will exist and actually exist this very day! You need not look far to see men posing as Christian, posing as if they could heal, and posing as if they could save your souls. They say, ‘give me money and I will pray for your dead in a special service and your loved one will gain Paradise !’ They say, ‘give me your money and I will heal you.’ Others say, ‘let’s have sex; after all, God wants us to have a fun life.’
There are literally thousands of reasons laid out as justification for following them instead of God! People, brothers and sisters, these folks want you to live for them, not for God! They want you to live a life of the flesh, not a life of righteousness! Jesus spoke these words to let you know that you had best do God’s will and do not follow imposters no matter how they attempt to lead you astray!
Matthew 24: 27For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.
In Verse 27 Jesus is telling us that He is coming and you can take that to the bank! His further warnings of, ‘carcass and vultures,’ lets us know that there are evil imposters, ‘vultures,’ that will be thee to feast upon the souls of the weak.
Matthew 24: 29"Immediately after the distress of those days " 'the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.'
Stars falling will be seen as the true men of God who diligently speak His Word will be set upon. The darkening of the sun and moon will be the total suppression of God’s Word, the Christian Bible and the shaking of “heavenly bodies,” the sadness felt throughout heaven for the trials Christians on earth must undergo. This period of torment of Christianity will be for a period of 2 ½ years! We must be prepared to stand firm no matter how bad it gets. I am sure of what I say.
Matthew 24: 30"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. 31And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.
Jesus’ return will be preceded by a “sign.” That sign will cause nations to mourn. Why, you may ask. These nations will be the very same that banned God from there citizens! They will realize that we Christians were right all along and that will make them weep.
I try, as do you, to tell many of God’s Word only to be ignored and talked about behind my back as ‘some kind of religious kook.’ Many smile and small talk, but just will not believe and that is sad. The only thing I can say of them is that their faith is weak and even if the were to listen, at the first attack on their new-found religion, they would deny Christ!
Those of you that are true Christians and have no doubt as to their being warriors of God are the type of people I want to associate with and as the old saying goes, “that’s then type of person I would share a foxhole with on the battlefield.”
(Closing prayer)
Almighty Father, Lord on High, we come to You asking that You receive our praise and know that each of us worships You as You have directed us to. Father, we worship You in Spirit and in Truth. You alone are most High and You alone are worthy of our heartfelt thanks and our love.
Lord, as we are going through times of fear and severe trials, we ask that You lend us the strength to face any that would seek to cause us harm. Strengthen us O Lord and be with us as we face the trials set upon us. Do not let us weaken in any way and allow us to be examples for any that would join us in our firm beliefs in You.
Lord, we ask that You strengthen our faith and steel our spirits. Help us to face all that is to come.
We ask that our prayers be answered and seen as our absolute faith in You by the fact that we believe.
We pray these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son and our Lord and Savior, who is one with You and the Holy Spirit, One God forever and ever,
Amen, amen and amen...
