NEVADA ASSEMBLYWOMAN MICHELE FIORE - SATURDAY 9-10AM KDWN 720AM

Friends,

Be sure to tune into “Walk the Talk with Michele Fiore”, Saturday from 9am to 10am on KDWN 720 AM. This week I am joined by guests Dr. John Lott, a renowned researcher and author, and Thom Collins, the father of rape survivor, Amanda Collins. We will be talking more about Thursday's hearing on Assembly Bill 148, facts on guns and crime rates, Michael Bloomberg’s opposition to the bill and more.
The Assembly Judiciary Committee met Thursday to discuss Assembly Bill 148.

AB 148, a bill I am calling, “Amanda’s Law”, will change Nevada’s current law to allow permit holders to carry their concealed firearm in any public building that doesn’t have a metal detector. Amanda Collins, a concealed-carry permit holder, was a student at the University of Nevada, Reno in 2007 when she was raped in a parking garage. Collins was deprived of the right to defend herself, and has joined the fight to ensure Nevadans can chose how they want to defend themselves.

Amanda was able to join the hearing and share her story via Skype. Her father, Thom Collins, was also present to share his testimony, and show his support for this bill. Thom is a proud, fourth generation, native Nevadan and has testified on versions of AB 148 four separate times.

We also had a very special guest join us to support AB148; Dr. John Lott who, in addition to his extensive research, he has written the book More Guns, Less Crime was able to eloquently shut down the opposition with facts.
Dr. Lott and Mr. Collins were gracious enough to join me on the Assembly Floor following the AB148 hearing.

“Almost always the debate from the other side is about hypothetical things, concerns about things that might happen. The thing is, there’s a lot of evidence we can look at, you know, its not just Nevada, but also we have a lot of other state that have rules similar to what Nevada wants to adopt, and we can see whether the types of concerns that they raise are valid or not” –Dr. John Lott on “Walk the Talk with Michele Fiore”

If you missed the hearing, you can watch it by clicking here.

In other news, have you heard about the deceitful and downright untrue ads from Michael Bloomberg’s group, Everytown for Gun Safety? Notice how it fails to mention that dangerous criminals and the mentally ill are already carrying. Click here to watch.
I was also featured on the Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore this week. Their biased and misleading report displays how the opposition is choosing to look at irrelevant incidents, and spin them into an argument against the bill. Fast forward to 2:45. Click here to watch.
These attacks on AB 148 show just how weak of an argument the opposition has. Nevadans deserve facts, not the misleading stories that the media is choosing to relay to them.

I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes: “I always cheer up immensely if an attack is particularly wounding because I think, well, if they attack one personally, it means they have not a single political argument left” - Margaret Thatcher
Yours truly,
Michele Fiore
