IRA ERA OVER?

Ever since Republican Assemblyman Ira Hansen announced a week ago that he was stepping down as Speaker-designee, liberals – led by Nevada’s #2 liberal blogger, Jon Ralston – have been dancing the Snoopy Dance on his political grave.

But some conservatives in Nevada aren’t willing to accept Ralston’s pronouncement that the “Ira Era” is over.  Indeed, in the immortal words of Sen. John Blutarsky

“Over? Did you say ‘over’? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!  And it ain't over now.”

Indeed, consider this well-argued “Open Letter” to Republican members of the Assembly I received this morning from Ralph Sacrison of Elko, Nevada…

Keep Hansen as Speaker
by Ralph Sacrison

Please consider that Ira Hansen stands with stellar companions, including U.S. Representatives Mia Love and Will Hurd, and U.S. Senator Rick Scott. That company extends to Professors Thomas Sowell and Walter E. Williams, Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. It seems all of them have been slighted, slandered, declaimed or defamed by the NAACP.

That once-estimable organization now wallows in institutionalized victimhood as the progressives’ most convenient national association of race card players. Not the newest, which might be La Raza. But I digress.

How sadly and how far the NAACP has fallen from early 1909 and the heights of the 1960s. Once champion of the downtrodden, it now champions subservience to progressive socialist political agendas. Disgracefully, those agendas require sustaining a permanent and disenfranchised underclass through which progressive tyrants and race-baiters attempt to wield the power of might, right be damned.

I have read some of the twenty-year old statements Assemblyman Hansen’s detractors decry, and see essentially parodies and satires of the progressive overseers. These are effective tools, but he is not the first to run afoul of the ease with which parody and satire can be removed from context. Both within and without humor, he illustrated the mindset of the progressive socialists, thus earning their lockstep hatred. That places him firmly in the company of the great contemporaries named above.

He is an honorable servant to family, friends, community and state. Mr. Hansen should take heart from that service and not despair this challenge.

I have read of an apparent lack of support for him by the timid in the GOP. Across local, state and federal levels, this is not a surprise, though an expected disappointment. It is symptomatic of a party establishment which seems not yet to understand that the progressives neither seek the common good nor embrace the integrity of law. Slander and deceit are the progressive socialist stock in trade. Impugning his character by misrepresenting the context of his words troubles them no more than they were by their disgraceful attacks on Allen West and Michael Steele.

Members of the Nevada State Assembly: in Ira Hansen you chose your Speaker well. Thank you. You should stand by your choice and again designate him Speaker. He is willing to stand down in the interest of comity and shielding the Assembly from controversy. That is noble but it will not engender genteel behavior from progressive puppets nor puppet masters, nor will it diminish the impending controversies over taxes and policy.

Restoring Hansen will restore real and procedural strength to counter the taxers, and reinforce the point that the Assembly will support their commitments and constituents.

TAX-HIKE COLLABORATOR EXPOSED

Well, it’s official.  Freshman Republican Assemblyman Chris Edwards (District 19) has sold out to “the man.”

I’ve now confirmed from three different, very reliable sources that Edwards has been making calls to colleagues urging them to vote for moderate Assemblyman Paul Anderson for Speaker at Tuesday night’s caucus meeting.

In fact, he is reportedly asking, let’s-make-a-deal-style, “What’s Paul have to do to get your vote?”

Sickening.

Make no mistake, Anderson is cut from the same tax-hiking cloth as Gov. Brian Sandoval (R&R Advertising) and Senate Majority Leader Moderate Mike Roberson (RINO-Henderson).  A vote for Anderson as Speaker is a vote for higher taxes, period.

Chris Edwards is not a conservative.  He’s a tax hiker.  And a sell-out.

Let the 2016 GOP primary in District 19 begin!

OSCARSON'S CONFLICT

In addition to not being philosophically grounded as a limited-government conservative, here’s another reason why Nye County Republican Assemblyman James Oscarson – who represents one of the strongest GOP Assembly districts in the state – has sold his soul and his vote to moderate Assemblyman Paul Anderson for Speaker-designee at Tuesday night’s caucus election.

It appears that if Anderson is elected, Oscarson has been promised that he will retain his chairmanship of the Assembly Health and Human Services Committee.  But if conservative Assemblyman John Ellison is elected Speaker-designee, committee chairmanships might change.

So why is this so important to Mr. Oscarson that he’d sell out his conservative GOP constituency to the tax-hikers?

Well, according to an email I received yesterday from one of his constituents, it appears that Mr. Oscarson is employed as the “director of community relations for a struggling Pahrump hospital,” that’s why!

Only in Nevada would something like this not be considered corrupt.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“I, Darren Wilson, hereby resign my commission as a police officer with the City of Ferguson effective immediately. I have been told that my continued employment may put the residents and police officers of the City of Ferguson at risk, which is a circumstance that I cannot allow. For obvious reasons, I wanted to wait until the grand jury made their decision before I officially made my decision to resign. It was my hope to continue in police work, but the safety of other police officers and the community are of paramount importance to me. It is my hope that my resignation will allow the community to heal. I would like to thank all of my supporters and fellow officers throughout this process.” – Former Ferguson, MO, police officer Darren Wilson
