SILVER STATE CONFIDENTIAL 09/13/2014

BILBRAY CAMPAIGN’S THIRD GRADE MESSAGING

The United States is facing major problems and threats all over the world – from Syria to Iraq to Afghanistan to Libya to Iran to the Gaza Strip to the Ukraine.  And it’s just a matter of time before that wack-a-doo in North Korea starts acting up again.

Congress also faces serious problems such as the ongoing Obama recession, the failure of ObamaCare, lackluster job creation, a broken immigration system and NSA spying.

With that in mind, take a look at the email Democrat congressional candidate Erin Bilbray-without-the-Kohn sent out to her supporters on Friday

Last fall, Joe Heck, John Boehner, and their right-wing friends in Congress cost our economy billions when they shut down the government. Now, Tea Partiers are determined to shut down the government AGAIN!

How can we be on the brink of another government shutdown? Congress just got back in session this week and the Tea Party is already threatening to bring it to a screeching halt.  This is unacceptable!

We cannot allow Joe Heck and his Tea Party colleagues to hold this country back, one political tantrum at a time.

Joe Heck was sent to Washington to work for the best interests of our families, not to be a “yes man” to John Boehner.  In the next 24 hours—sign here >>

I would suggest that Erin’s school-aged daughter – the one in her new TV commercial - wrote this slop.  But I’ve met her daughter…and there’s no way she would write something this childish, this juvenile, this bad, this embarrassing.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

Blogger Amanda Coyne (“Inside Alaska Politics…So You Don’t Have to Be”) has an update on a former Nevada state senator that many of you will remember…

“Tiger ‘burning bright in the forests of the night’ Helgelien was appointed by Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan to the Budget Advisory Commission. Helgelien, as some might remember, is married to the former Elizabeth Halseth, who was named one of the hottest politicians in the country by lad mag Maxim, with a bikini photo spread to prove it, when she was a state senator in Nevada, before she quit half-way through her term. Helgelien, a golfing pro, has been busy setting himself up for a future in Alaska politics.”

MUTH’S TRUTHS

--> I, along with a number of conservative/GOP advocates for medical marijuana, attended an event for liberal Sen. Tick Segerblom (D-Las Vegas) at the b-e-a-utiful home of attorney Ed Bernstein Tuesday night before heading over to the b-e-a-utiful home of conservative leader Wayne Allyn Root for an event for Republican Brent Jones, conservative Tax Pledge signing businessman and GOP candidate for state Assembly.

Talk about spanning the philosophical spectrum!

Segerblom is a lock for re-election.  Jones has a tough, but doable, race which would be a GOP pick-up if he wins.  Click here for more information on his campaign.

--> BTW, I’m told Karen Steelman is having a red-faced cow over me going to Sen. Segerblom’s event, even though the senator and I have been strong allies on the medical marijuana issue (Tick invited my daughter to sit next to him on the floor of the Senate the day his historic marijuana dispensary bill passed).  And all I can say is…

Who’s Karen Steelman?

--> Conservative Republican Jim Wheeler (D-Gardnerville) agrees with me that Tesla shouldn’t be the only company to get tax breaks in Nevada.  As such, I hear he plans to submit a bill next session to completely eliminate the Modified Business Tax, perhaps the stupidest tax ever invented (it taxes businesses for every employee they hire).  So let it be written; so let it be done.

--> The Elko Tea Party has officially endorsed Independent American Party (IAP) candidate Janine Hansen over incumbent Republican Rep. Mark Amodei in the 2nd Congressional District race.  Spokesperson Lana Noland made the announcement Thursday night and called on Amodei to participate in a “live” debate in Elko to explain his votes on a number of issues.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

"Nevada, the sucker is you." – Los Angeles Times columnist Michael Hiltzik on the Tesla deal

“No matter how you slice it, the (Tesla) deal makes utterly no sense. It is just one more example of a government giveaway for a factory that would have been built anyway.” - Richard Florida, an expert on economic development incentives at the University of Toronto
