1. Guess Which Company Gains the Most from the Export-Import Bank - by Tom Borelli
Reauthorization of the U.S. Export-Import Bank is one of the few agenda items that Congress is expected to address when legislators return from their summer break. The Export-Import Bank, which provides financing for foreign buyers of products from U.S. based companies, needs Congressional approval by September 30 to continue its operation.
Tea Party backed legislators oppose taxpayer backed government lending and it remains to be seen if they can muster the support of their colleagues to kill the Export-Import Bank. Leading Democrats, including President Obama, support reauthorization of the bank. Read more here...

2. Capitol Hill Update, September 8, 2014 - by Josh Withrow
House & Senate/Schedule: Both chambers are back from their 5-week summer recess, and both will remain in session at least until September 19th. However, the need to pass a Continuing Resolution to fund the government means that there is a strong possibility that Congress could remain in session longer if negotiations become difficult.
Legislative Highlight of the Week: During this session of Congress, all eyes will be on the Continuing Resolution to fund the federal government. The previous funding bill expires on September 31st. There are a multitude of possibilities for how the CR may turn out, but perhaps the likeliest is that a short-term compromise will be reached to fund the government through mid-December. This would set up a “lame duck” session of Congress, when Members feel less accountable because they have just survived reelection (or not). Read more here...

5. Black Americans Continue to Face Double Digit Unemployment - by Deneen Borelli
The August jobs report brought surprisingly bad news for job seekers and the U.S. economy.
Economic analysts had predicted over 200,000 new private sector jobs for August but expectations were disappointing with only 142,000 jobs added, the lowest number of jobs added this year.
The Department of Labor results fell well short of the survey from ADP which estimated an addition of 204,000 jobs. Read more here...
