26% Previously Uninsured

Do you remember the original intent of ObamaCare? It was supposedly the noble effort to fund insurance for the poorest of the poor, but there's that small thing of more taxes, regulation and generally less Liberty. And according to numbers crunched in a McKinsey survey, the tradeoff wasn't worth it. The survey found only 26% of the people signing up for ObamaCare were previously uninsured. So how many of the other 74% had plans canceled by ObamaCare? Call us crazy, but it seems like the solution isn't working. If we liked our Liberty, couldn't we have kept it? More...

Democrat 'Selective Amnesia'

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), who will chair the House Select Committee on the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack, has urged his fellow Republicans not to fundraise off the scandal, though the National Republican Congressional Committee did so. But Gowdy also hammered Democrats for their hypocrisy in wailing about it. Given the proud Democrat tradition of fundraising over events such as Sandy Hook, Hurricane Katrina and so forth, Gowdy said, "It would be helpful if our colleagues on the other side of the aisle did not have selective amnesia when it comes to what's appropriate to raise money off of and what is not." If Democrats didn't have selective amnesia, what would they have to talk about?

Military Tranny

Three years after Don't Ask, Don't Tell was repealed as a policy of the U.S. military. A ban on transgendered soldiers still remained, and the Pentagon says there are no plans for change. But Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said, "The issue of transgender is a bit more complicated, because it has a medical component to it. These issues require medical attention. Austere locations where we put our men and women in many cases don't always provide that kind of opportunity. I do think it continually should be reviewed. I'm open to that, by the way. I'm open to those assessments, because, again, I go back to the bottom line. Every qualified American who wants to serve our country should have an opportunity if they fit the qualifications and can do it." Lest Hagel forget, the military was constitutionally founded to provide for the security of the people of the United States, not as a petri dish for cultural polices. That's the bottom line. More...

Criminal Illegals Released

More than 36,000 illegal immigrants were released from custody last year after being convicted of a crime despite going through deportation proceedings, according to a new study from the non-partisan think tank Center for Immigration Studies. Of the group, 193 were convicted of homicide, 426 of sexual assault and 303 had a previous history of fleeing law enforcement. In some instances, the report found some of the releases were contrary to the Immigration and Nationality Act. "[D]espite professions of a focus on removal of criminal aliens," the report's summary said, "Obama administration policies frequently have allowed political considerations to trump public safety factors and, as a result, aliens with serious criminal convictions have been allowed to return to the streets instead of being removed to their home countries." Here's a radical idea: Let's uphold Rule of Law and keep the people in this country safe. More...

Obama Slams 'Climate Deniers'

While delivering a speech promoting renewable energy last week, Barack Obama said, "[W]e've still got some climate deniers who shout loud, but they're wasting everybody's time on a settled debate." He added, "Hundreds of scientists, experts and businesses, not-for-profits, local communities -- all contributed over the course of four years. What they found was unequivocally that climate change is not some far-off problem in the future. It's happening now. It's causing hardship now." Really, it took a plethora of scientific groups to figure out that the climate is always in a state of change? And yet they still don't get it. Mona Charen recently wrote, "The Economist magazine noted [that] 'half of all published research cannot be replicated … and that may be optimistic.'" Such fabrication would include the EPA itself. "The point," Charen concludes, "is not to ignore scientific data but to treat all studies, models and predictions with a degree of skepticism." Something for those who emphatically proclaim "the science is settled" to consider.

RIGHT ANALYSIS

It's Far Bigger Than a 'Gay' Football Player

2014-05-13-c3bbe304.jpg
Michael Sam is set to be the NFL's first openly homosexual player after being drafted by the St. Louis Rams over the weekend. Sam "came out" while staring as an all-SEC defensive end for the Missouri Tigers. He has now joined a small handful of other major-sport professional athletes as a poster child for the homosexual agenda and the push to remake our culture.
Sam didn't impress enough at the Scouting Combine (tryouts) to merit being chosen higher than the seventh round, but many in the Leftmedia were eager to attribute that to "homophobia" in the NFL. Just imagine if he hadn't been chosen. Yet the hoopla surrounding his selection is just a taste of the media circus Sam will bring to St. Louis and every city the Rams visit -- whether he can actually play football in the NFL is secondary. But if Sam can make it on the merits, then good for him. It shouldn't be about which team he plays for off the field.
The treatment of Sam and of anyone who vocalizes a dissenting view is a huge double standard when compared to, say, Tim Tebow, who was roundly criticized for his outspoken Christian faith during his brief NFL career. Tebow is not currently playing in the league, thanks at least in part to the media distraction he had become. Among the Leftmedia elite, it was acceptable to savage Tebow, but a grave sin to do anything other than give fawning approval to Sam.
Indeed, the PC Police have already swung into action. Miami Dolphins safety Don Jones tweeted "OMG" and "Horrible" after Sam's draft and subsequent graphic on-screen kiss with his boyfriend. The Dolphins fined Jones an undisclosed amount and he is suspended from all team activities until he completes "educational training," which might as well be known as re-education camp. Jones was quick to offer a mea culpa, saying, "I want to apologize to Michael Sam for the inappropriate comments that I made last night on social media. I take full responsibility for them and I regret that these tweets took away from his draft moment."
The NFL no doubt hopes Jones' punishment will serve as a warning of what appears to be a zero-tolerance policy on freedom of thought. Such has become the standard practice with the homosexual agenda, no matter the arena. Think back to the public lynching of Phil Robertson of "Duck Dynasty," Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy and the Boy Scouts. Or of the lawsuits filed against photographers, bakers and florists who dare to conscientiously object to same-sex weddings. Conformity of thought will be enforced.
As columnist David Limbaugh asks, "What if someone believes that the Bible teaches that homosexual behavior is sinful and also believes in following the Bible? Are we getting to the point that Big Brother not only gets to disapprove of such beliefs but also is entitled to punish and muzzle those who subscribe to them? Which is a greater evil and which is a greater threat to our formerly free society, to believe that homosexual behavior is sinful and same-sex marriage ought not to be sanctioned or to ban the expression of such thoughts?"
Not only is our culture growing more perverse in its values, but it's becoming increasingly hostile to the Judeo-Christian values upon which the nation was founded, and without which its survival is in jeopardy. This isn't the story of a football player or a sports league, and it's also not the story of "hate" and "discrimination." It's the story of a far bigger battle for our culture and for Liberty.

Geithner Says He Was Told to Lie During Financial Panic

2014-05-13-60d15731_feature.jpg
It's time for another Washington memoir, and up for the talk show circuit this time around is former Treasury Secretary and alleged tax cheat Timothy Geithner. His book, "Stress Test: Reflections on Financial Crises," hit the stores this week, and he offers some juicy tidbits about how Obama administration officials put him in compromising positions. But he seems to spend most of the 500-plus pages justifying his actions in the early months of the 2008-2009 financial crisis.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius (121-180 AD): "The opinion of ten thousand men is of no value if none of them know anything about the subject."
Economist Thomas Sowell: "[S]ome colleges have established what they call 'free speech zones' -- as if they are granting a special favor by not imposing their vague and arbitrary 'speech codes' everywhere on campus. The irony in this is that the Constitution already established a free speech zone. It covers the entire United States. ... [T]hose who are whipping up the lynch mob mentality have shown far less interest in stopping rape than in politicizing it. Many of the politically correct crusaders are the same people who have pushed for unisex living arrangements on campus, including unisex bathrooms, and who have put condom machines in dormitories and turned freshman orientation programs into a venue for sexual 'liberation' propaganda. They laughed at old-fashioned restrictions designed to reduce sexual dangers among young people on campus. Now that real life experience has shown that these are not laughing matters, the politically correct still want their sexual Utopia, and want scapegoats when they don't get it."

Columnist Mona Charen: "If Democrats got their fondest wishes regarding climate change, the U.S. would spend billions more on solar, wind and other energy sources that are more expensive than hydrocarbons and incapable of meeting our energy needs. We would simultaneously delay or impede the development of cheap and environment-friendly natural gas, and tax and extensively regulate industries that produce or rely on fossil fuels. The result would be slower economic growth and more hardship. ... The Democrats' doomsday predictions are phantasms spun of speculation, worst-case assumptions and panic aimed at increasing the government's control of economic life. The Republicans' doomsday fears are based on the arithmetic certainty that we cannot pay the estimated $86 trillion in debt we've amassed."
Comedian Argus Hamilton: "Barack Obama was interrupted by a car alarm at a Bel-Air mansion fundraiser while he was denouncing income inequality. It was embarrassing. You'd think if the Democrats really believed in ending income inequality they'd turn off the alarms and let the thieves have the cars."
