GRASSFIRE'S 2016 PRESIDENTIAL STRAW POLL: OFFICIAL RESULTS
Dear Conservatives,
Grassfire wants to thank the nearly 26,000 team members who completed Grassfire's 2016 Presidential Straw Poll. After carefully analyzing the results, we discovered some startling surprises.
For question one ("Who is your first choice for a 2016 Republican presidential candidate?"), the results indicate a three-horse race between Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, with 21.9 percent of the votes; Senator Ted Cruz of Texas with 21.3 percent; and Dr. Ben Carson, who pulled in a shocking 17.7 percent.
Fourth-place finisher Mike Huckabee was nearly 12 percentage points behind Carson, suggesting a very wide gap between the top three candidates and the rest of the early field.
Other names of note include: Sarah Palin, 4.6 percent; Marco Rubio, 2.3 percent; and New Jersey governor Chris Christie, 2.0 percent.
+ + Biggest Surprise ... Biggest Loser
Question number two ("Who would you not want to see as the 2016 Republican presidential candidate?") was the straw poll's biggest surprise. In a clear runaway, more than half of the Grassfire team members who voted said they do NOT want to see Chris Christie (53.4 percent) as the Republican nominee in 2016. New Jersey's governor far outpaced Jeb Bush (35.8 percent) for the "biggest loser" in our poll, which allowed respondents to select multiple candidates who they do not want to see win the Republican nomination.
Based on poll results, establishment Republicans like Newt Gingrich (35.4 percent) and Mitt Romney (32.1 percent) might want to reconsider any plans for a 2016 run, as Grassfire team members overwhelmingly opted for candidates with strong Tea Party and constitutional ties.
Although certainly not scientific, Grassfire's 2016 Presidential Straw Poll did provide us with an early snapshot of where Tea Party and conservative patriots stand on the candidates. Not surprisingly, some of our findings run counter to what's being reported by the mainstream media.
