Some of McConnell’s friends are holding a fundraiser for Sasse’s opponent at the NRSC. One name stands out pretty significantly on the invitation: Billy Piper. Mr. Piper is not just Mitch McConnell’s former Chief of Staff. He’s now a well paid lobbyist working on behalf of companies implementing Obamacare. The Lexington Herald-Leader had a report on this just a couple of months ago. Senator Mitch McConnell has received $75,000.00 from UnitedHealth Group. UnitedHealth owns the company that built Healthcare.gov. We at RedState declared him Senator Trainwreck, endearingly, when he ran for the Senate. His book, Breach of Trust, is one of the best reads on the corrupting nature of Washington, D.C. Over the past year, with all the budget fights, I’ve said more than my fair share of critical things about Senator Coburn’s positions, but Senator Coburn has never let Washington change him from being a very fine soul. As House Republicans prepare for their aptly-named “GOP Retreat” at the end of the month, they are planning to make immigration the centerpiece of their legislative strategy.  Both Politico and Roll Call offer a glimpse into their grand scheme.  They will offer a lot of window dressing about enforcement and all the things the GOP base wants to hear.  But ask yourself this question: why the urgency? Undemocratic and dysfunctional Machinists’ union blames Amazon for employees’ rejection Whether it is extreme hubris or blatantly deceptive spin, the International Association of Machinists does not seem to realize that, over the last several months, the union has done a number of things to sully its own reputation in the minds of its members—as well as the general public—which is likely costing it potential new members.
