MUTH'S TRUTHS 01/25/2014

BYE-BYE SUBWAY

I just ate at Subway last Friday night in Lake Elsinore, California…so yes, I am an occasional customer.  But a firestorm has erupted over yesterday’s announcement that the food chain has caved into First Lady Michelle Obama’s nanny-state “war on childhood obesity.”

According to the Washington Post, Subway has agreed “to only include the most nutritious foods on its kids menu and meet the restrictions the federal government has placed on school lunches to include apples on the side and low-fat or nonfat milk or water as a beverage.”

“I asked companies to stop targeting kids with unhealthy products,” Obama said. “We need to vote with our wallets. That’s how we get even more fresh food in our communities.”

You know, I think I'm going to take the First Lady’s advice and vote with my wallet…by boycotting Subway from this point forward.

Screw ‘em.  I’ll stick with Capriotti’s.

TOO MUCH HUTCH SENDS ACTIVIST TO THE SHOWERS!

The Carson City GOP held a candidate forum Thursday night featuring the two Republicans running for lieutenant governor, conservative Sue Lowden and moderate establishment-backed Mark Hutchison.  Here’s a first-hand report from an attendee that was texted to me right after the event…

“After listening to Hutchison I had to come home and take a shower.  I do not see how these ppl sleep at night with all the lies they tell.  Everything you have ever written about this man is true.  What a sleaze!”

And here’s the latest example of what this person is talking about...

Hutch’s campaign – following up on a non-story pushed out this morning by his unofficial press secretary, liberal blogger Jon Ralston – belched out this statement this Friday afternoon:

“Sue Lowden, a Republican candidate running for Nevada Lieutenant Governor in 2014, announced yesterday that she believes U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is a ‘Reagan Conservative.’”

In the immortal words of Rep. Joe Wilson, “YOU LIE!”

In the radio interview in question, Lowden noted that back in the 1980s, when Ronald Reagan was president, Reid, then in the House of Representatives, was considered a conservative Democrat…which is true.

Conservative Democrats back then were generally referred to as “Reagan Democrats,” and that’s what Lowden was saying.  She never even came CLOSE to saying Harry Reid is still, today, a “Reagan conservative.”

And by the way, the whole thing was a setup by a planted caller on behalf of Hutchison asking about donations Lowden and her husband made to Reid way back in the 1980s totaling all of about $5,000 over a period of ten years.

Now contrast that to the reported $2 MILLION (and counting) the Lowdens spent trying to DEFEAT Reid in 2010!

This attack by Hutch is just total bull-$#!+ and a perfect example of how Hutch’s disingenuous campaign continues to distort the truth – especially how it’s trying to cover up his pro-tax hike voting record and voting record in favor of implementing ObamaCare here in Nevada.

I think I need to go take a shower!

CRESENT’S FOOLHARDY COMMENTS

Establishment Republican Assemblyman Cresent Hardy is running for the GOP nomination in Nevada’s 4th congressional district against tea party conservative Niger Innis.  And some of the things Hardy said in a recent interview published by the Mesquite Citizen Journal will certainly raise a few conservative eyebrows…

  • Hardy said he definitely thinks ObamaCare “needs to be repealed,” even though he voted in favor of imposing Nevada’s ObamaCare exchange on our state (not to mention expanding Medicaid!).
  • He said Nevada’s ObamaCare website is working better than the national ObamaCare website…which is like saying a broken down ox-drawn cart is working better than a broken down mule-drawn cart.
  • He acknowledged that once the feds stop paying for Nevada’s ObamaCare exchange in three years, he has no idea “where the money will come from to pay for the rising numbers of enrollees.”  Lovely.
  • He’s in favor of extending unemployment insurance for some people but not others…but has no idea how to fund the benefits for the people who will keep getting it.
  • He boasted of his “ability to work with members of the opposite party during the 2013 Nevada Legislative session when he was the Assistant Minority Leader in the Assembly.”  [Yes, he proved that by voting with the Democrats for higher taxes and bigger government over and over again.  Indeed, his conservative Citizen Outreach rating for the 2013 session was an abysmal 40.38%.]
  • He said that the Social Security and Medicare entitlement programs are not “entitlements,” and that since they are “insurance plans” it’s OK that “people get much more than they ever put in.”
  • He said that he’s opposed to the national Common Core standards even though I’m told he voted for a Common Core bill in 2013.  I’m trying to verify that right now.
  • He said we have to “get away from...capitalism" – even though capitalism has made the United States the richest, freest country on the face of the planet.
  • He reportedly said, “I’m a believer in the Agenda 21 program” - an extremely controversial United Nations effort to control development, among other things, that is virulently opposed by many conservatives.

Can’t wait for the Hardy-Innis debates!  When and where will the first one be?
