Amidst concerns that the agency is engaged in a domestic arms race against the American people, the Department of Homeland Security has signed a new $4.5 million dollar contract with weapons manufacturer Heckler & Koch.
A synopsis posted on the Federal Business Opportunities website yesterday announces the DHS’ intention to ink a five year deal with the Virginia-based firearms maker to provide gun replacement parts for the Federal Protective Service, ICE, Customs and Border Protection, “and other DHS agencies as needed.”
Although the document (PDF) is supposed to be redacted, the relevant sections have not been blacked out correctly and the figures are visible (see screenshot here).
The total value of the contract is $4.5 million, spread out across five annual payments of $900,000 dollars.
Although the number of DHS agents who carry Heckler & Koch firearms is blacked out, the document states that the need to source replacement parts is to ensure reliability and “to minimize officer safety concern and to protect the American public.”
For the last dozen years or so, I have regularly attended the annual CPAC conference…the largest annual gathering of conservative activists in the country.
And I’ve actively encouraged others to attend, as well. Indeed, if you’ve never been to a CPAC, I still encourage you to make the pilgrimage.
But I’m passing this year.
It will still be a fantastic event, but it’s not the event I used to know…or that Ronald Reagan used to attend. For just a glimpse of what’s gone wrong, check out this column by Reagan biographer Craig Shirley...

For anyone who has done even a cursory study of Barack Obama’s life, they know that his radical Marxist views are not a recent phenomenon. During his New York years, he was a frequent participant in the annual Socialist Scholars Conference held in Manhattan. In the 1990s, he was affiliated with the Marxist New Party. [...]

Heller Calls for Investigation into Senate Budget Waste
(Washington, D.C.) – Yesterday, U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) wrote a letter to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration asking them to consider auditing Senate operations and offering to work with them to identify areas of wasteful spending within the Senate budget.
The letter to Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Pat Roberts (R-KS) points out that a 1995 audit found $20 million in savings within the House of Representatives’ budget. Heller also notes that an audit would help lead towards a “fiscally austere Congress,” which is particularly important considering our nation is nearly $17 trillion in debt.
If you live in the real world, you will notice that the federal government has destroyed our free markets, limited our freedoms, and denigrated our right to religious liberty – all before Obamacare has fully taken effect. The federal agencies continue to promulgate rules and regulations that drive up the cost of the most vital goods and services to the point that most of us will require government subsidies just to afford our most basic necessities, most notably, health insurance.
Yet, for many Capitol Hill conservatives who live in an exclusive world of budget-speak, we are on the cusp of restoring our Constitutional Republic. You see, the upcoming CR (H.R. 933) will fund discretionary spending for the remaining 6 months of Fiscal Year 2013 at the level of $974 billion [well, it's actually $982 billion, but it's close enough to the original RSC number for members to become all sentimental over it].Isn’t that awesome?Forget about focusing our message on things that actually penetrate the tin ear of the average voter, such as losing their healthcare under Obamacare. We’re talking about our victory over “974.”
Did you ever think that Republicans would rally around a cry of “974?”What does the number 974 mean to you?Not much.No wonder why Republicans have a terrible approval rating with the American public. . . . please click here for the rest of the post →
