MEET SEN. ELBERT GUILLORY

Our First Friday Happy Hour VIP guest-of-honor tomorrow night, September 6th, is gonna be a real treat.  You do NOT want to miss this opportunity!

Sen. Elbert Guillory is an African-American member of the Louisiana Legislature.

As Wikipedia notes, his “Roman Catholic father, Ozema Ledee (died c. 2009), was an adventurer who flew his own plane, a rarity for a black man in the 1950s, and he was an entrepreneur and a bootlegger. Guillory's mother, who was still living in 2013 at the age of 104, is a hard-shelled Baptist, as he terms her, who forbade alcohol and cursing in her home. She earned her living as a teacher and school principal.”

Guillory himself attended the historically black Southern University in Baton Rouge…but was kicked out for writing an editorial in the school newspaper in which he referred to then-Democrat U.S. Senator Allen J. Ellender as a “lunatic.”

And get this: “Guillory's avocation is mountain climbing. Not only has he reached the summit of Mount Rainier in Washington State and Mount McKinley in Alaska, but he also has climbed his ‘namesake’ Mount Elbert, the apex of the Colorado Rockies.”

On May 31, 2013, Sen. Guillory rocketed to YouTube viral stardom (almost 500,000 views in the first three days!) with a video he produced to explain why he was switching parties and becoming a Republican…making him the first Republican senator in the Louisiana Legislature since Reconstruction.

In the video, Sen. Guillory refers to Democrats at “the party of Jim Crow” while calling the GOP “the party of freedom and progress.”  He went on to say that his party switch was "not only right for me, but for all of my brothers and sisters in the black community.”

Wow.  I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to meet this guy personally!

IRRITATING LIBERALS

Got this voice-mail in response to my recent Nevada Appeal column on why the government has no business setting a “minimum” – or any other kind of – wage…

"Hello Chuck. I read your article today and I am really disturbed about you. I can't believe you can't even stand up for the poor people.  I'm glad you paid your rent and got health care when you were fourteen years old and, uh, paid for light bills and everything and bought food – all for that when you was fourteen years old while mopping up the floor. You're so full of shit. Give me a break.  Stop blaming Obama.  I’m tired if you and sick of your stupid articles.  You suck. You're a fat slob."

Lord, how I love irritating these people!

CONSERVA-GEDDON!

Conservative primary challenger Lisa Krasner – running against moderate incumbent Republican Assemblyman Randy Kirner – is getting the full support of GOP women.

Get this not-so-subtle swipe at Kirner by Ruth Ann Schwarz of the Washoe Republican Women in the August edition of the NvFRW newsletter…

“We are very pleased that our 1st Vice President, Lisa Krasner, is going to be running for office here in Washoe. Lisa is a Constitutional lawyer who does know the Constitution, unlike someone else I will not name... She is a young mother dedicated to her family and her country and is a wonderful representative for all Republican women.”

Perhaps tax-hiking Assemblyman Kirner might want to contemplate just retiring with dignity.
