RedState Briefing 07/29/2013

Morning Briefing
For July 29, 2013

1.  Shut Down ObamaCare, Not Government
I didn’t come to Washington to shut down the federal government; I came to help bring it back to its proper role. This role should create an environment where America is the easiest and best place in the world to create better paying jobs by starting a business or growing an existing one. One way to do that is by ending failed programs like ObamaCare that hurt our people, waste their money and scare businesses away from opening or growing. The looming September debate on a short-term spending plan is the last best chance to do that. That’s why we must stand united to defund ObamaCare as a condition for supporting a short-term spending plan.

We know President Obama will resist. He will insist on shutting down government unless ObamaCare is fully funded. But we simply cannot continue to pour money into this rapidly imploding program. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

2.  The Sad Joke From John Cornyn’s Office
John Cornyn says he yanked his name off Mike Lee’s Obamacare defunding letter because Mike Lee’s letter only pertains to partially defunding Obamacare and John Cornyn wants to fully defund it.

One might then assume John Cornyn will vote against a continuing resolution unless Obamacare is fully defunded. But no, that’s not what he is doing.

John Cornyn has turned into a sad joke and Mike Lee’s letter is important because it is highlighting these punchlines of past their prime politicians who preach, but won’t practice what they preach.

John Cornyn has no intention of fighting. Neither does Mitch McConnell. Neither does Lamar Alexander. Neither does Richard Burr. Neither do most of the Republicans. They will send you fundraising appeals telling you to stand with the GOP against Obamacare, please send them money.

But when confronted with the challenge of opposing continuing funding of the government if that funding goes to Obamacare, their testicular fortitude runs down their leg and out the door. They rally their usual op-ed voices to call conservative dumb. They preemptively surrender. They behave worse than the French. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

3.  Mitch McConnell Thinks Matt Bevin is a More Serious Contender Than He Originally Let On
he Mitch McConnell team originally seemed rather dismissive of Matt Bevin as a primary opponent. Content, publicly, to focus on the Democrat, behind the scenes McConnell and the Kentucky GOP are aggressively pushing local Republicans to unite quickly. They want to shut down Bevin early. . . . please click here for the rest of the post

4.  Court to Striking Teamsters: Stop Profanity, Harrassment & Threats Against Funeral Goers
A temporary restraining order was granted last week against striking Chicago-land Teamsters employed as funeral directors and drivers at 16 area funeral homes managed by Houston-based Service Corporation International (SCI).

Teamsters Local 727, which is headed by the powerful and politically-connected Coli family, called the strike against SCI on July 1st. . . . please click here for the rest of the post
