President Barack Obama, speaking in Mexico City on Friday, said the United States is responsible for much of the crime and violence in Mexico because of the demand for drugs and the illegal smuggling of guns across the southern border.

The violence in Mexico is directly caused by US "War on Drugs". These illegal drugs provide millions in ill-gotten gains for criminals. Where is the benefit to this war? If Drug use was treated as an illness instead of the adversary of war would Mexican and American people still be dying from the violence?
