SILVER STATE CONFIDENTIAL 04/01/2013

FREE SAMPLE

I expect to re-start Silver State Confidential as a paid subscription publication again in the next few days (just working out the mind-numbing technical part dealing with recurring online payments).  In the meantime, enjoy this free sample…

THIS JUST IN…

The Nevada State Senate this afternoon approved SJR 15, a resolution to shove a new $780 million tax hike up the mining industry’s wazoo, by a vote of 17-4.

The only votes in opposition were by conservative Republican Sens. James Settelmeyer,Don Gustavson and Barbara Cegavske, along with moderate Republican Sen. Pete “Tax My Meat” Goicoechea, whose entire district is basically in mining’s back yard.

And just as a helpful reminder, the Dirty Half-Dozen tax-hiking Republican state senators (April fools?) who voted with the Democrats, the liberal media and PLAN (Progressive Liberal Alliance of Nevada) to give mining the shaft were:

Sen. "Moderate Mike" Roberson
Sen. Ben “Blue Dog” Kieckhefer
Sen. Joe “The Nanny” Hardy
Sen. Greg Brower
Sen. Scott Hammond
Sen. Mark Hutchison

YOU CAN BE DAMNED SURE WE AIN’T STOPPING…

Jim Messina of BarackObama.com – which is masquerading as a new non-profit grassroots advocacy organization, Organizing for Action (OFA) – sent out the following email to supporters in Nevada last week…

“We're up against a whole lot more than just opposition in Congress.  We're up against interest groups with money to burn -- organizations willing to drop every last penny they have to stop President Obama's agenda in its tracks. We're already seeing it on gun violence, and immigration reform -- they're going to spend millions to throw a wrench in the works of progress. You can be damned sure that this is not going to stop.”

Damned straight, Skippy!

Why in the world would God-fearing, freedom-loving, Constitution-revering Americans sit on their bums and just let Obama & Company get away with destroying this great nation one executive order at a time?

These people don’t want to stop gun violence.  They want to stop gun ownership!

They don’t want immigration reform.  They want full-blown amnesty - including a Democrat voter registration card!

But Messina’s wrong about one thing…

Conservatives like you and I aren’t going to stop at just throwing a wrench into Obama’s agenda.

Indeed, we’re going to throw in a sledge-hammer, a chain saw, a power drill and maybe even a John Deere riding mower if that’s what it takes to gum up the works!

Here’s the problem in Nevada: Our GOP “machine” more closely resembles an ox-drawn cart than Ferrari.

And while Republicans here fiddle, the Obamacons are organizing precincts on Facebook and Twitter; getting ready again for another door-to-door political street brawl.  In fact, Messina concluded his “To the ramparts!” email with the following…

“This is going to be fun. If we do this right, the other side won't know what hit 'em.”

Oh, we know what’s coming. The question is: Will we do anything about it this time?

I’m not optimistic.

GARBAGE OUT, GARBAGE IN

Las Vegas Review-Journal letter writer last week suggested that Republic Services’ new trucks will no longer pick up trashbags curbside in North Las Vegas.  Sounded outrageous, so I checked.  Sure enough, not true.

Yes, trash bags now have to be placed in the new trash carts (cans) that Republic’s trash trucks mechanically lift and dump; however, if you have additional trash bags that won’t fit in your new trash cart, you can still leave them out curbside.

“For the occasional times when you find yourself with more trash than you have room for in the supplied carts,” Republic explains, “place the bags next to the cart and the driver will reload the cart one additional time.”  The company goes on to explain that “if you find yourself with extra bags on a regular basis,” just call them to receive an additional cart.

IT’S ALL ABOUT SEX!

From our friend and citizen-lobbyist extraordinaire Janine Hansen of Nevada Families…

AB 230 is a blow to PARENTAL RIGHTS and is an expansion of how and what our children will be taught in Sex Education.   AB 230 will be heard MONDAY, APRIL 1, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.   We need your help to STOP AB 230!

·         AB 230 VIOLATES PARENT’S RIGHTS by requiring an OPT your child OUT of what is being taught.  The presumption will be if the school does not hear from the parent, the child will receive the instruction.  Many parents will never be aware of what their child is taught.
·         AB 230 REQUIRES COMPREHENSIVE SEX EDUCATION “WITHOUT LIMITATION”
·         AB230 TAKES LOCAL CONTROL AWAY,  giving control of what will be taught to  “The Council” to establish standards of content forcing broad and controversial mandates on local school districts.   The Sex Ed Advisory Committee will no longer have a majority of parents who are the real stake holders in their children’s lives.
·         AB 230 WILL ALLOW Planned Parenthood and similar groups into the classroom with NO accountability to school districts and/or to parents.  No longer will it be a requirement for Sex Ed to be taught by a nurse or by a district teacher.

IT’S ALL ABOUT GUNS!

Janine also advises on two important upcoming gun bills.

First, she urges support for AB143, the Campus Carry bill for individuals who have a CCW permit.

And secondly, opposition to AB234 which requires a $25 background check for private person transfers of firearms and a new tax of 2-cents per round of ammunition purchased.

HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE

A dark-horse candidate to replace Assemblyman Steven Brooks in Assembly District 17 has popped up: Democrat political mechanic Ronni Council

Council is well-known and highly respected by Democrat politicos up and down the ballot and would seamlessly blend into the Carson City rigmarole.  She also reportedly enjoys an excellent relationship with Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick(She’s also on my personal Top 10 list of Democrats I enjoy doing a shot with!)

One problem though: Council apparently doesn’t live in the district.

But ironically, one of her candidates for state Assembly last year was Andrew Martin, who a judge ruled didn’t live in the district he was running in but who ended up getting seated anyway.  So if anybody could pull off an out-of-district appointment, it’d be Council!

CARSON CITY CRAPPOLA

* Gov. Brian Sandoval announced today that he intends to flush an additional $25 million down the public school commode for the purpose of expanding all-day kindergarten and new English Language Learner programs.  Unbelievably, some of the funding will reportedly come from “lower than projected Medicaid caseloads” despite the governor’s support for expanding Medicaid.

The numbers here just don’t add up.  Go figure.

* Senate Minority Leader “Moderate Mike” Roberson is rumored to not only be cuddling up with the lefties over at PLAN (Progressive Liberal Alliance of Nevada), but is now courting a new BFF in the form of SEIU’s Al Martinez

Maybe Roberson should just change parties now and get it over with?

* State Sen. Ben “Blue Dog” Kieckhefer has sponsored a bill prohibiting the feeding of wildlife.  He says he wants to punish people who feed bears in the Lake Tahoe area, but instead of sponsoring a bill to, you know, punish people who feed bears in the Lake Tahoe area he’s pushing a wider bill that would punish people for feeding squirrels, chipmunks and birds at your local public park.

What is with this guy?

* At 18 you’re old enough to vote and die in a war for your country, but if State Sen. Barbara Cegavske has her way you’ll no longer be able to dance nude at an adult entertainment club.  But get this: You’ll still be allowed to turn tricks in a Nevada brothel!  Yeah, that makes perfect sense.

Why can’t these legislators leave grown adults alone as long as they’re not hurting anyone else?

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“Liberals' advice to rape and domestic abuse victims is: Lie back and enjoy it. The (new York)Times' advice is: Get a protective order. The NRA's advice is: Blow the dirtbag's head off!” –Ann Coulter
