MUTH'S TRUTHS 03/01/2013

NO FIRST FRIDAY HAPPY HOUR TONIGHT

Instead, we’re moving this month’s get-together to NEXT Friday, March 8, 2013.  Stay tuned for more details…

HAPPY SEQUESTER DAY!

Hard to argue with this observation from our conservative friends at the Republican Study Committee:

“According to the White House, the sequester is Armageddon.  If you believe President Obama’s Chicken Little impersonation, the sky will fall and American civilization will cease to exist.  Fortunately, Americans know what’s really going on here.  Even the mainstream media isn’t falling for the hyped up doomsday claims by the president.  The Mayan calendar had a higher degree of accuracy than President Obama's scare tactic predictions regarding sequester.”

Let’s avoid the Christmas rush and bring on Sequester II: The Sequel without delay!

On the other hand…

Yesterday afternoon, Gov. Brian Sandoval joined the sequestration Chicken Little caucus, issuing a press release warning of “extensive consequences” for Nevada should the teensy-tiny budget cuts in future federal spending actually take place.

Look out!  We’ve seen this act before.

Get ready for Sandoval to flip-flop once again and back another huge tax hike, blaming the “totally unexpected” sequester situation for forcing him to break his word…just as he blamed that court decision on the clean water project at the end of last session.

Taxpayers, ye be warned.

A TALE OF 10 REPUBLICAN GOVERNORS

Pop Quiz: Which of these isn’t like the others?

Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal of Loiusiana is proposing to eliminate his state’s personal and corporate income tax.

Republican Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin is proposing an income tax cut.

Republican Gov. Sam Brownback of Kansas is proposing to eliminate his state’s income tax.

Republican Gov. Mary Fallin of Oklahoma is proposing a cut to the top bracket of her state’s income tax.

Republican Gov. Pat McCrorty of North Carolina is proposing an income tax cut.

Republican Gov. Nikki Haley of South Carolina is proposing to eliminate her state’s 6 percent tax bracket.

Republican Gov. Dave Heinman of Nebraska is proposing the elimination of his state’s income tax.

Republican Gov. John Kasich of Ohio is proposing a reduction in his state’s income tax.

Republican Gov. Mike Pence of Indiana is proposing a cut in his state’s personal income tax of 10%.

Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval of Nevada is proposing a $620 million payroll tax hike on his state’s largest employers, multiple sales tax hikes, a doubling of the business licensing tax and an increase in the vehicle registration tax.

Makes you proud to be a Nevada Republican, doesn’t it?

DRIVE-BY MUTHINGS

* I spoke to the Sun City Conservative Club last night and briefed a great group of people on the Mt. Reagan project.  At the end of the program, the group also Skyped in Republican Assemblyman Wes Duncan from Carson City, who not only gave an update on the goings-on in the state capital, but announced that he and his wife are expecting their first child!

Paraphrasing Luca Brasi: “And may your first child be a conservative child.”

* U.S. Sen. Dean Heller sent out a press release on Thursday calling on the Senate “to immediately bring the Simpson-Bowles debt reduction plan to the floor for a vote.”  Problem is, Simpson-Bowles is a tax hike – estimated at over $4 trillion over ten years!

Look, our problem is spending.  It’s not that Americans aren’t paying enough in taxes; it’s that the government is spending too much.  Simpson-Bowles shouldn’t be brought to the floor for a vote; it should be buried 10 feet under, preferably with a stake through its heart.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

“Over the last 12 years the federal government has doubled in size. We spend 100 percent more now than we did a dozen years ago and after this huge run up in the size of federal spending, this sequester or its equivalent, would reduce spending by 2.3 percent.  After growing by 100 percent, we can’t find 2.3 percent?” –
Republican Sen. Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania
