RedState Briefing 01/25/2013

Morning Briefing
For January 25, 2013

1.  Obama losing his gun control campaign
New polling from Washington Post-ABC News and Pew find that President Obama’s campaign to repress the Second Amendment right “keep and bear arms” is faltering.

On January 22, 2013, Pew released polling results that found the public followed news about Obama’s gun control proposals closely and the reaction is mixed. Only 39 percent think Obama’s proposals are about right, while 31 percent think the proposals go too far. Or, as Politico put it, “39 percent back Obama gun plan.”

Of course there is the usual partisan divide. A 57 percent majority of Republicans say the proposals go too far, and 25 percent say they are about right. A 55 percent majority of Democrats (55%) say the proposals s are about right, and 10 percent  say they go too far. Independents are more evenly divided — 36 percent say the proposals are about right, while 33 percent say they go too far.  . . . please click here for the rest of the post

2.  After Big Punt, Here’s How GOP Can Score
As a conservative, I hate when Republicans constantly punt on spending. It’s annoying, and it keeps happening. We have no reason to think it won’t keep happening.

American Majority Action opposed the House GOP leadership’s plan to suspend the debt ceiling for four months without spending cuts. We believe that the day to stop stealing from our children is today–not tomorrow, not four months from now.

However, the House passed it anyway, with 33 conservatives dissenting. Now that it’s passed, and the Senate will likely pass it, the real question becomes: Now what?

It’s important to note that outgoing Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan voted for this debt ceiling suspension. Jordan, by all intents and purposes, is the primary leader of conservatives in the House. So, why did he vote for more debt? . . . please click here for the rest of the post

3.  Finally, Honest Words From the Pro-Abortion Society
I feel like singing the Hallelujah Chorus right now.  No more “safe, legal and rare” canard. No more lies about how an unborn child is just a “bunch of cells”.  The left is finally coming “out of the closet” on the truth that life begins at conception and abortion is murder.  Or at least, one author on the left is doing so…Salon author Mary Elizabeth Williams who is the author of an article entitled “So what if abortion ends life?” . . . please click here for the rest of the post

4.  The Deadly Truth About Workplace Freedom
The Ohio Education Association (OEA), union campaign arm We Are Ohio, and other labor groups hope to convince Ohioans that workplace freedom kills workers. Ohio union bosses are desperate to keep mandatory union dues in place across the state following the December 2012 adoption of a right to work law in neighboring Michigan.

Confronted with evidence that letting workers choose whether to pay a union spurs job growth, supporters of forced unionism insist every economic factor except workplace freedom deserves credit. Meanwhile, OEA and We Are Ohio attack Ohioans for Workplace Freedom by claiming the group’s proposed constitutional amendment would reduce wages, increase poverty, cut health benefits, and even kill workers. . . . please click here for the rest of the post
