SILVER STATE CONFIDENTIAL 09/25/2012

RAISING CAIN AND CAUSING PAYNE!

“The Hermanator” himself – our good friend Herman Cain – is returning to Las Vegas next Thursday, October 4, along with Fox Business analyst Charles Payne, for an exclusive luncheon at the Ravella (formerly the Ritz Carlton) at Lake Las Vegas in Henderson.

The luncheon is being co-sponsored by the CEO-CFO Group, Citizen Outreach and Job Creators Solutions.  There will be a networking hour beginning at 11:00 a.m., followed by lunch at high noon.  $100 per person EARLY BIRD if you register before September 29.  $150 at the door.  Click here

NAKISHIMA V. JONES

State senate District 9 candidates Mari Nakashima (R) and Justin Jones (D) squared off onJon Ralston’s Face to Face show Monday night.

Nakashima comported herself well (except for the overuse of the phrase “you know,” you know).  She had answers to the questions about the budget that EVERY Republican candidate should KNOW Jon is going to ask. Not the answers I would have given, but far better than the answers most GOP candidates give.

Jones, on the other hand, was a complete disaster.  Came off as a sniveling, double-talking lawyer.  In other words, he was himself.  Ralston asked him straight, legitimate questions multiple times about his role in a high profile lawsuit, and each time Jones belched up weasel answers…before pleading the lawyer version of the 5th Amendment: attorney-client privilege.

The depth of Nakashima’s stated fiscal conservatism remains questionable, as she has listened to GOP leaders, lobbyists and her handlers and opted not to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge.  That aside, she’s clearly preferable over Jones who, unbelievably, ended the debate denying there’s a housing crisis in his district.

Talk about clueless!

Ralston followed up this morning with an unrelated item related to that SD-9 race:

“By the way, I came across some ridiculous mail pieces in that race from SEIU against Nakashima. They attack her on, of all subjects, Medicare. Not for anything she said during the campaign, but as a spokeswoman for the state GOP. Really? That’s just pathetic…”

Indeed.

THE HORSFORD FILES

Former University Chancellor Jim Rogers continues his Twitter assault on the mindless political campaign of Democrat Steven Horsford.  I say mindless because Horsford burps up such mindless drivel on his own Twitter account, such as this gem yesterday:

“Spoke today on a panel about the deferred action process & the opportunities 4 NV DREAMers at Casa de Dios.”

Well that’s just, um, wonderful.  But back to Mr. Rogers.

Apparently some big-time Democrat is trying to set up an intervention in which Horsford and Rogers meet to clear the air and what not.  And yesterday, Horsford seemingly miraculously finally found time in his busy schedule (2 weeks from now!) to actually participate in such a meeting.

But here, let Mr. Rogers explain it in the manner that only Mr. Rogers can:

“I feel blessed. After five years waiting for Steven Horsford to return a call my anxiety level has now dropped appreciably because Horsford has agreed that I can speak with him as soon as October 10. He is even coming to my office. In anticipation of this colossal event I’m sure I won’t be able to sleep during the week before the conversation.

“I haven’t a clue of what he’ll say to me. I’m sure being the great political figure he is that I’ll be overwhelmed.

“I hope I remember what he looks like.”

As someone with a Masters Degree (homeschooled) in Advanced Sarcasm, I read Mr. Rogers’ tweet on this subject and – what’s the modern way of putting it? – oh, yeah, ROTFLMAO.

DRIVE-BY MUTHINGS

* Latest Nevada polling: Public Policy Polling shows Obama up 52-43 percent , with 5% undecided.  A separate poll by American Research Group shows the president up 51-44 percent, while a third poll for the Retail Association of Nevada by Public Opinion Strategies shows the presidential race tied 46-46 percent, with 2% undecided.

* Romney Republicans are attempting a counter-R3volution at the Clark County Republican Party. A report on the groups meeting last week can be found by clicking here

* Will everyone stop whining about the replacement refs, please.  We all know they’re not as good as the regular refs.  That’s not the point.

The point is, the regular refs are extremely well compensated for the job they do…especially in this economy when so many people watching the games on Sunday don’t even HAVE a job.  So get off the replacements’ backs and tell the unionized refs to stop being a bunch of greedy crybabies and get back to work.

FAMOUS LAST WORDS

"Everyone understands the power of repetition in political campaigns. But the endless repetition of empty slogans and silly attacks shows the candidates’ respect for their audience. Or lack thereof.” – Jon Ralston
