CHINA IS OUR BIGGEST HEADACHE

Most Americans have forgotten that thousands of Chinese students gathered in Tiananmen Square in June, 1989 to demand reforms—and paid with their lives.

The China we confront today is just as determined, just as brutal, and far more powerful.

We've handed them our future, buying and borrowing like mad. We've let them keep their currency artificially low, making their exports cheap—and making ours more expensive.

But even though unfair trade practices have cost 2.8 million Americans their jobs, Congress does nothing. Even when we see continuing censorship and brutal repression in China, Congress fails to act. And even now, as our trade deficit with China hits a new record, we fail to curb our insatiable desire for their artificially subsidized exports.

Will Washington have the courage to act?
