NEW VIRUS WARNING!
I received the following from Chuck Trautman of Phoenix, Arizona yesterday…and this is no joke. I almost fell for this one myself and would have joined Chuck in his pain and e-agony:
“I WAS HAD! Can you believe staring at your desktop as a virus attacks your computer? That happened to me today about 11:30 AM. I'm sending this from my iPad while the Microsoft techs are deleting the virus. I have MS Essentials for my anti-virus program. The MS guys said the virus was new enough that they didn't have it blocked yet.
“The name of the scam is Smart Fortress 2012. Watch out for it!
“Here's the background - I made a stupid mistake. Normally I am cautious about opening attachments, but not this time. On Friday I mailed 3 priority mail envelopes, signature required. Today I received an email from USPS about the non-delivery of one of the packages. The attachment was to include the scanned shipping label, so I opened it. Right before my eyes my desktop appeared and all the program icons changed to the Windows Media icon.
“Panic set in but it was too late. The only thing I could open was windows media. Then a very Microsoft looking icon appeared telling me I had a virus and if I clicked the Smart Fortress 2012 tab it would remove them. I then called Microsoft and they said it was all a scam and my computer was infected by a new virus.”
Bottom line: Do not open any attachments purportedly from the USPS you might get in an email!

Former Las Vegas City Councilman Mike McDonald sent out an email to members of the Nevada GOP on Tuesday asking for their support in his bid to be the next party chairman at the special election being held in Las Vegas on April 22nd. Mike’s message…
Dear Friends,
In just two short weeks we will choose a new State Chairman for the Nevada Republican Party.
The State Chairman is often referred to as the face of the Party and we have had far too many "faces" in recent history. If elected, it will be my goal to bring consistency back to this crucial position.
My ability to fundraise has been repeatedly proven. It's through my experiences as an elected official and Chairman of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority that I have been able to cultivate longstanding relationships with my colleagues; both professionally and politically. It will be critical that the Nevada State Chairman have the capability to personally reach out to the power players in Clark County so that we can begin to build our war chest to beat Obama come fall.
As Chairman, my objectives will be to bring integrity, leadership and transparency back to the party. In addition, the responsibility to align all of the factions, vastly increase voter registration and be undaunted by the massive amount of fundraising that needs to be done will fall completely on the newly elected Chairman. Only with a fierce leader will Nevada's "Battle Born" moniker remind the Nation we are a battleground state and a force to be reckoned with.
The skills and relationships that I have developed as a lifelong Nevada Republican can aid the Party during this very exciting time. The infighting and the different ambitions of its factions have gravely injured our Party. I'm truly humbled by the conviction of my supporters and their confidence that I am the correct choice to tend to those wounds and make our Party healthy once again.
I've been a public servant to Clark County all my life. I've been a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Officer and a City Councilman (Mayor Pro-Tem) for Las Vegas. Now, I aspire to be a servant to the entire state of Nevada. It would be my honor to be the thunderous voice that precedes Nevada's mighty Republican Party.
I absolutely refuse to have the Nevada Republican Party, OUR PARTY, quietly disappear. In a stark contrast to the odd message of silent obedience, I fully intend to disengage the stranglehold that has kept our state blue for far too long. That blue color is often associated with death and cold; while red reflects the promise of life and warmth. Together, we can breathe life into Nevada and make it a red state!
I declined the floor nomination for this position last year to avoid further splintering of the Party. My message of unity and party solidarity has not changed. It is with my vision of a united front that I humbly ask for your support now.

NEW PLEDGE SIGNER
Ken Wegner, Republican candidate for Nevada’s new 4th congressional district, faxed over his signed Taxpayer Protection Pledge on Tuesday. Barbara Cegavske, Danny Tarkanian and Dan Schwartz are Republican candidates also running in that race, but none of them have signed the Pledge yet.
