MUTH'S TRUTHS 10/18/2011

JIMMY CARTER: THE SEQUEL

From Stephen Moore of Political Diary today.  It speaks for itself:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is out with a new survey of 1,330 small and medium sized business CEOs. The answers are shocking about the level of mistrust the nation's employers have in politicians these days. When asked what "do you want from Washington?" 13% said they would like "a helping hand" from government, while 80% said "get out of the way."

The level of pessimism by employers is frighteningly high, with 89% saying the economy is "on the wrong track" versus just 5% saying "right track." Only one in six employers say they intend to hire new workers next year.

So why are so many businesses on a hiring time out? The second most common answer to that question was "uncertainty about what Washington will do next." Another job deterrent is ObamaCare. One out of three CEOs listed as one of the top two obstacles to adding new workers, "the requirements of the health care bill." That was roughly the same number of business owners who blamed the standard Keynesian excuse for the recession, "lack of sales" (34%).

In a separate survey question, 41% of business operators identified implementation of ObamaCare as "a top concern." That finding squarely contradicts what Mr. Obama and the Democrats promised 18 months ago, that ObamaCare would ease the health care burden on businesses, lower their costs and help create jobs. So if Mr. Obama wants jobs "right now," one of the surest steps to gaining them would be to suspend the health-care law.

A Chamber spokesman associated with the survey tells me: "this is about as pessimistic and we've seen since the Carter speech on malaise." That's terrible news for Mr. Obama, who is looking more like the failed Jimmy Carter.

STOP GOVERNMENT REGULATION OF THE INTERNET!

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is trying to control the Internet through “Net Neutrality” regulations passed late last year. In order to allow future innovation and expansion of broadband Internet, this government takeover by regulatory fiat must be reversed. Americans for Tax Reform urges you to contact your legislators today and urge them to reverse the FCC’s decision.  Click here
