Conservatives,
As debt talks have heated up this summer, the media have been pushing liberal talking points, trashing conservatives and praising our hapless president nonstop. But for all of their lies, none has been more obvious, inflammatory and easily disproven than their daily declaration — across cable, broadcast networks and newspapers throughout the country — that the U.S. will default if a deal is not reached by August 2nd. This statement is false, they know it’s false, and they repeat it again and again to try to force conservatives to take a bad deal on raising the debt ceiling.
It’s one thing for partisan politicians to use scare tactics to get an advantage in negotiations. It’s a far different thing for a supposedly impartial media to repeat their lies!
The MRC’s CNSNews.com has offered several detailed reports proving conclusively that the United States will only default if President Obama and Secretary Geithner decide not to make interest payments on our debt. The U.S. has more than enough money to make interest payments as well as pay social security, medicare, veterans and active duty military benefits.
Earlier this month, NewsBusters.org’s Noel Sheppard observed that the website of ABCNews.com had a clock labeled "Countdown to U.S. Debt Default.” This was on July 9th, at that time, Noel laid out in detail why this was both inflammatory and completely false. As I write this, the clock is still there on ABC’s site.
This time, they’ve gone too far, even for the left-wing radicals that populate U.S. newsrooms. Our nation is in crisis. Spending is out of control. But rather than report the facts, the liberal media are aiding and abetting a transparent campaign by Washington liberals to terrify our seniors and military families. This shameless propaganda campaign must be countered! That “journalists” would continue to lie to the American people about the government’s ability to pay our debts, just to lobby for more taxes and more spending, puts our nation in grave danger.
After you sign our petition, forward this email to all of your friends and family. We are doing everything that we can to counter this disgusting piece of deadly propaganda, but we need every member of our Action team to help us spread the word! Conservatives cannot win the battle to stop our nation’s out of control spending spree if the American people are convinced that financial Armageddon will come if no deal is reached.
We know the stakes in this debate, but the media are not doing their jobs. They are not telling the public the truth. They are trying to convince U.S. citizens that any deal — even one with job-killing tax hikes and trillions of more debt — is better than no deal. Since they refuse to tell the truth, that responsibility falls to patriots like us.
