- Let me distinguish between professional politicians and the public at large," the president said, emphasizing that lawmakers, not the American people, were "paid to worry about" the debt limit. - The public is not paying close attention to the ins and outs of how a Treasury (bond) auction goes. They shouldn't," he said. "They've got a lot of other things on their plate. We're paid to worry about it."
- "I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue, because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it," Obama said. - "These are veterans checks, these are folks on disability and their checks," he said. "There are about 70 million checks that go out."

- "If you all don't allow me and my friends to continue bankrupting your nation, senior citizens, disabled people and veterans is where we will stop federal payments first!"

- BEFORE CUTTING OFF ANY PAYMENTS TO SENIORS, VETERANS OR THE DISABLED, EVERY GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEE FROM THE WHITE HOUSE TO CONGRESS MUST STOP THEIR OWN PAYCHECKS FIRST
- BEFORE YOU CUT OFF PAYMENT TO THOSE WHO PAID INTO SOCIAL SECURITY, ALL WHO DRAW BENEFITS WITHOUT HAVING EVER PAID INTO SOCIAL SECURITY MUST BE DUMPED OFF THE SYSTEM FIRST
- BEFORE A SINGLE DEPLOYED SOLDIER GOES WITHOUT ANYTHING, EVERY MEMBER OF THE JOINT CHEIFS MUST GIVE UP THEIR PAY AND BENEFITS
- BEFORE A SINGLE TAXPAYER IS ASKED TO DO WITHOUT ANYTHING ELSE, 9. ALL NON-TAXPAYING CITIZENS MUST BE TAKEN OFF THE PUBLIC DOLE

Meanwhile, House Republicans are making a show of debating over a fraction of the cuts necessary to avoid national bankruptcy. Senate Republicans are so spineless as to suggest congress should pass the power of the purse strings to the Executive branch.
