ARIZONA - REDISTRICTING INFORMATION YOU MUST KNOW

Submitted by: Mary Beales

Arizona residents:

The pending redistricting is an important issue for conservatives in our state.
We must pay close attention to what is happening.

I've been working on getting this information out sooner; but I am in a real time crunch.
I tried to include what I felt was important but without overwhelming anyone.

There are three  attachments:  One is from Russell Pearce (Ten Rules for redistricting);
the second  is a schedule of public meetings to take place.   It would be advisable for
you to check ahead to verify that the meeting will take place. Some of the meetings have obviously already taken place; I plan to  attend the one in Phoenix.
The third is an article on how  democrats turned Colorado from a red state into a blue state.
The mapping company chosen by the IRC (Independent Redistricting Commission) is
a public relations firm that was involved in Obama's presidential campaign.   There is
a link to an article below.  Attorney Horne plans to investigate the Commission. Please
read the article.

Here is my two cents about this in a nutshell.

People live where they please for a variety of reasons.  I live in District 5 in Scottsdale;
not saying it is going to happen, but if the lines of this district were drawn to include a portion of Tempe, this would cease to be the community where I choose to  live.  I chose to live in Arizona and in this part of Arizona because it affords a variety of amenities and a certain lifestyle.

I worked two jobs for a period of time to be able to buy a home in a good neighborhood
where I feel comfortable and safe.  People have the right to want to feel safe.

Liberals/progressives do not accept defeat.  If they lose an election, they seek to
either contest it or change the rules so that they can win the next time.  This is
about more than redistricting.  It is about the continuous battle against encroach-
ment of our liberties.  There have been numerous assaults lately from outsiders
seeking to change the way we, the voters of Arizona, run our state.  Outsiders
clamoring for recalls of elected officials and the federal government suing the state
for upholding existing laws.

Please attend the meetings if you can; make calls, send emails, and encourage
others to get involved.  Many peope have already voiced their concerns to the Attorney
General,  the Governor and others.  Feel free to contact me.

God Bless

I suggest you first contact your AZ reps; then go to the rest.  Make your voices heard in
multiple places.  Encourage Horne to continue with his investigation.  His phone number is
602-542-5025 or 800-352-8431; fax is 602-542-4085; or email aginfo@azag.gov

http://www.azleg.gov/alisStaticPages/HowToContactMember.asp  Click on "Senate" and then
"House" to get all the names of people who represent you in the AZ legislature.   But you
have to know what district you are in.  There is a provision for finding that on the web site
as well.

http://www.govtrack.us/congress/findyourreps.xpd?state=AZ  Shows who our 2 US Senators
are and all the of the reps in Congress and the district numbers.

http://azgovernor.gov/contact.asp  Governor Brewer's contact page.

http://www.congress.org/bio/id/14132  Congress.org - Bio : Rep. Terri Proud (R-Arizona) biography
Proud is critical of the commissio and would be a good contact person.

Frank Antenori, an AZ legislator, is also critical of the Commission and would be a good person
to contact:  fantenori@azleg.gov
