TX SENATE HEARS TESTIMONY ON SANCTUARY CITIES

Yesterday, a Texas Senate committee heard testimony regarding legislation enabling local law enforcement to question people about their immigration status during encounters following other offenses.  Gov. Rick Perry recalled the bill for review during this month’s special session after it died during the 2011 regular session. Testimony is scheduled to continue today as so many people signed up to speak. Opponents of the bill argue it will lead to racial-profiling, giving too much power to officers, and overcrowding of jails.

ATTORNEY PREDICTS DOJ WON’T CHALLENGE ALABAMA

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, the lawyer being several recent illegal immigration laws, said he’d be “surprised” if the Justice Departmentchallenges Alabama’s recently passed crackdown on illegal immigration.

Kobach claims the Obama administration was only playing politics by going after Arizona since it was an election year since Obama has failed to set the DOJ after Indiana or other states that have passed similar legislation since Arizona.
