CHINA MEDIA DISCOVERS CITIZEN OUTREACH
"One year after U.S. President Barack Obama signed into law the new health care reform bill, opponents have intensified their efforts to repeal and defund the law and Obama will be forced to defend this legislation in his re- election campaign," reports George Bao of China's Xinhua News Agency.
"The Las Vegas based Citizen Outreach organization has started sending out mass e-mails during the weekend, calling supporters to send e-mails or faxes to their local U.S. Congressional members asking for the repeal or defund of the health care reform bill.
"The message from Citizen Outreach called the health care reform bill as the Obamacare, and said that 'If Obamacare is not repealed many economists expect Obamacare to cost American taxpayers 2.5 trillion dollars over 10 years, between 2014 and 2024.'"

ANOTHER "HUMAN SHIELD" LIBERAL ACTIVIST EXPOSED
OK, get this.
On April 6 the Las Vegas Review-Journal ran a heart-tugging story about drama students in Clark County who might see their theater programs reduced or eliminated because of necessary budget cuts. The story highlighted a 15-year-old kid named Jose Solorio Jr. who declared that the possible elimination of theater classes at his high school would result in the community losing "a big asset."
Later in the story, Jose's pop, "who volunteers as an assistant cross country coach" at his son's school, piped up. "This madness of 'no new taxes' is going to decimate everything until there's nothing left," Solorio Sr. told the paper, "criticizing state Republican leaders' reluctance to approve new taxes in the middle of the recession."
Just an average, run-of-the-mill father concerned about his son's welfare, right? I mean, that he volunteers as a cross country track coach is all the paper said about the guy. He's just your typical, ordinary dad, right?

Vicky Maltman, president of the North Valleys Republican Women, discovered over the weekend that Jose Solorio Sr. is far from just a concerned parent. He's a hard-core political activist.
More than that, he was a candidate for the Nevada State Board of Education last year. And according to his candidate page on the Las Vegas Review-Journal's own website, Mr. Solorio is a former City of Las Vegas government employee who served on the Clark County School Board back in 1993-94.
He is also listed as being the "current First Vice-Chair of Si Se Puede Latino Democratic Caucus" who was endorsed in his race by the teachers union and the SEIU and whose wife is - get this - "an 11-year Middle School Science teacher in the Clark County School District."
Wait, wait, wait..we're not finished.
Mr. Solorio was also the token Hispanic affirmative action pick by the Clark County Commissioners for a spot on the Coroner's Inquest Board last November after, according to a Las Vegas Review-Journal story, he "argued that Hispanics warrant a seat on the panel because they make up 30 percent of the county's population and, relative to their numbers, have frequent fatal encounters with police."
None of which was noted in the story.
Now, I have no problem with Mr. Solorio's activism. In fact, I applaud it. We need more people getting involved in the political process, not fewer. However..
Considering Mr. Solorio's politically-charged comments regarding Republicans and no-new-taxes, it seems to me the reporter might have done a little deeper checking into the man's background in search of potential political bias rather than simply reporting that the guy was a concerned father and volunteer track coach.
I mean, come on..the information about Solorio Sr. is right there on the reporter's own newspaper's website. It's such errors of omission which cause conservatives to so strongly suspect liberal media bias.
And this incident certainly reminds me of a similar incident a few weeks back over that tear-jerker Associated Press story about unemployed construction worker Tera Burbank who is supposedly so financially strapped that she sends her kids to school with nothing to eat but carrots and peanut butter, yet somehow found the time and money between job interviews and arranging anti-Joe Heck rallies to travel all the way up to Carson City last month and lobby for higher taxes.
It's one thing for newspapers to continue running these "human shield" stories highlighting potential budget cuts, but is it really too much to ask for a little truth in political labeling?

JOE HARDY'S RINO PROTECTION ACT
For those who may have forgotten already, liberal Republican U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska lost her GOP primary race last year. But rather than accept the will of the GOP primary voters, Murkowski launched a write-in campaign which ultimately cost the GOP's conservative nominee the election in the general election.
The good news is, no such post-primary write-in option is available in Nevada. The bad news is liberal Republican state Sen. Joe Hardy has introduced a bill, SB 269, that would allow him to file as a write-in candidate should he lose a future GOP primary race the way Murkowski did last year.
Yes, of course this bill applies to any candidate who loses a primary, throws a temper-tantrum and refuses to accept his or her party's decision. But come on; we know exactly what Hardy is thinking here.
A liberal Republican like Hardy - who, in just four sessions has already voted for the largest and third largest tax hikes in Nevada history and, this session, introduced a bill to force people who raise money for charities to cough up a hefty registration fee in order to get a government license - is likely to continue facing well-deserved GOP primary challenges for the duration of his legislative career.
And eventually, Liberal Joe's record is going to catch up with him. At which point, Sen. Hardy wants to be able to run in the general election after losing his GOP primary, hoping he'll have earned enough Democrat support with his liberal voting record to win re-election even after being rejected by GOP primary voters. Just like Murkowski.
And for the record, this swings both ways. Indeed, if Hardy's bill had been law last year, Democrat Assemblywoman Kathy McClain, who lost in the Democrat primary for state Senate to now-Sen. Mark Manendo, probably would have run in the general election as a write-in candidate and very well could have beaten Manendo.
This bill should be called the "Sore Loser Act." It sucks. It deserves a stake in the heart at the next possible opportunity, and permanent entombment in Davey Jones' locker (sorry, I watched "Pirates of the Caribbean" with the kids last night).

GOP RISES, UNEMPLOYMENT DROPS
Nevada's unemployment number shrank ever-so-slightly again for the third month in a row. And while some will say this is primarily due to more and more workers simply giving up on the possibility of finding a job and/or moving to another state, it should be pointed out that the numbers also started shrinking around the same time Republicans took control of the House and Harry Reid lost his super-majority control of the Senate.
It was also around the same time Gov. Brian Sandoval took control of the Nevada governor's office and firmly declared "no new taxes, while Democrats in Nevada lost their super-majority in the state Assembly and pro-tax Republican state Sen. Bill Raggio retired. But I'm sure that's all just a coincidence, right?

DOGGONE GOVERNMENT STUPIDITY
It's not necessarily government I hate so much as government stupidity.
So I'm in Carson City this week - Stupidity Central when the Legislature is in session - and this time have my kids and dog with me. As such, we decided to pick up a bag of burgers and head over to the official Dog Park on the south end of town for a couple hours so "Vixen" could run around off-leash and play with other dogs for a couple hours.
No sooner did the poor dog hit the ground running when we were confronted by a Dog Cop. That's right, a Dog Cop. The guy had a badge and ticket book and everything.
Politely enough, the Dog Cop informed us that our dog was free to run around off-leash in the dog park, but not during lunchtime because it might bother people without dogs who come to the DOG PARK for a picnic lunch.
Hello? There are dozens of people parks and picnic areas where dogs cannot run off-leash spread throughout Carson City. If you don't own a dog or don't like dogs, go to one of them. But Dog Park is the ONLY park specifically catering to the dog-owner community. Alas, the logic of letting dogs run and play in the dog park while the dog's owners are on their lunch break has escaped the collective wisdom of the city's fathers.
And by the way, if governments are so strapped for cash that they're threatening to cut essential services, how is that Carson City can afford to pay a Dog Cop on a Sunday afternoon, hmm?
