OBAMA - OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY ON PBS!

Barack Obama's latest budget proposes to INCREASE funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), the parent company of NPR and PBS, from $420 million to $451 million.

At a time when Americans are pinching every penny, and budgeting their lives, can we really afford to be giving this much to public broadcasting?

NO!

And, it seems - NPR AGREES!

Recently, NPR's senior executive, Ron Schiller, was caught on camera declaring that "we would be better off in the long-run without federal funding." When asked if the station would survive if funding were pulled right now, Schiller said, "yes, NPR would definitely survive and most of the stations would survive."

Let's give them what they want!

House Majority Leader Eric Cantor commented on the alarming revelations, saying,
"As we continue to identify ways to cut spending and save valuable resources, this disturbing video makes clear that taxpayer dollars should no longer be appropriated to NPR."

Congress needs to cut its budget just like the American taxpayers are. We can no longer afford to fund institutions like NPR and PBS - when they could EASILY survive on their own. Why should taxpayers pay for LIBERAL PROPAGANDA like NPR or give ANY money to a television channel which features MULTI-MILLION DOLLAR A YEAR programs?

Conservative Action Alerts believes that taxpayers should NOT foot the bill for biased networks that promote the LIBERAL AGENDA. This is why we need to deliver HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of Faxes to each and every Congressman right away, to make sure that this is CUT FROM THE BUDGET. It's time these networks start surviving on their own.

NPR is notorious for being a left-wing propaganda machine. Do you really want your tax dollars going to fund such a media outlet? And PBS is the home of Sesame Street, a multi-million dollar a year franchise. Do they really need our help?

Barack Obama and the Left will tell you that without federal funding, these networks will fail. This is not true. Hundreds of other radio stations and television channels survive without taxpayer funding, so why can't these?

They JUST TOLD US, they don't need our money.

Our country is facing a mountain of debt, and we need to look for ways to reduce spending. If there is a program that does not need taxpayer support, than it should not receive taxpayers support.

The American people have demanded that Congress leave no stone unturned when finding ways to cut the federal budget, and this seems like a no-brainer.

Both NPR and PBS should easily be able to compete in the private marketplace along with local radio stations and networks such as HBO and TLC. The government should never have been involved in the broadcasting business in the first place.

NPR exists to spread the liberal word and counter conservative talk radio - which receives NO public funding and does just fine. If liberals want people to listen to their propaganda, maybe they should say something worth listening to.

The President of American's for Limited Government, Bill Wilson, has asked that members of the Senate cosponsor legislation introduced by Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) that would amend the Communications Act of 1934 to prohibit Federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting after fiscal year 2013.

This would still give NPR and PBS 2 years to convert to private funding.

"Senate members who profess to be fiscally responsible need to show the courage of their convictions, and cosponsor Senator DeMint's bill to completely defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting," Wilson said. "If Congress can't cut the small things, like public broadcasting, it will never be able to deal with entitlements or significantly reducing the deficit, let alone paying off the $14 trillion debt."

When National Public Radio fired liberal journalist Juan Williams late last year, they sent a clear message to those who do not march lockstep in line with their Far Left, Marxist views: we will silence you!

This should have been the last straw for taxpayers. Not only is free speech under attack in this country, but your tax dollars are paying for it!

Here are some examples of the high journalistic standards the Left expects you to pay for:

Andrei Codrescu said of Christians, "The evaporation of 4 million who believe this crap would leave the world an instantly better place."

Nina Totenberg said of Jesse Helms, "I think he ought to be worried about what's going on in the Good Lord's mind, because if there is retributive justice, he'll get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it."

Sunni Khalid said of Newt Gingrich, "I think he's looking at a more scientific, a more civil way of lynching people."

"Shows like Sesame Street are thriving, multimillion-dollar enterprises," Senator DeMint wrote. "According to the 990 tax form all nonprofits are required to file, Sesame Workshop President and CEO Gary Knell received $956,513 - nearly a million dollars - in compensation in 2008. And, from 2003 to 2006, Sesame Street made more than $211 million from toy and consumer product sales. Big bird will be just fine without his federal subsidies."

Sesame Street alone can fund PBS. For a non-profit organization, they rake in the dough from toys, DVD sales, royalties, not to mention the Sesame Street Workshop which reaches over 140 million kids across the globe. Sesame Street Live sells tickets for up to $70 dollars. They can support themselves.

The truth is, Americans are hurting, and anything that can be cut, should be cut.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting should be cut!

Only 13% of the total budget for CPB comes from taxpayers. It seems perfectly reasonable that they could easily find other ways to close that gap within the next two years. Hundreds of other television channels, like HBO, TLC and the History Channel, as well as other radio stations take no Federal money and do just fine. It's time for NPR and PBS to follow suit.

So why is Obama and the left CLINGING to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting? An opinion piece written for RedBlueAmerica may have the answer.

Joel Mathis wrote that public broadcasting "creates a better-informed citizenry, the kind needed for a well-functioning democracy." He goes on to say that "in Western Kansas - and in rural areas around the country - NPR affiliates represent the one place on the dial where in-depth news and analysis can be found."

Oh, really?

"Take that away, leave all those American at the mercy of whatever lowest-common-denominator pap that for-profit radio stations serve them..." he explains.

So THAT is why the Left wants NPR to receive taxpayer money. Democrats want to be the party that FUNDS NPR, so that they can continue to be the ONLY news source to rural America.

The left wants to continue its stranglehold on American media.

They don't want NPR to have to rely on advertising and donations to stay afloat because stations like High Plains Public Radio - which provides NPR's news programming and programs from the BBC World Service - gets 35% of its budget from federal funds. The most liberal radio station in the country needs taxpayer dollars to stay afloat. Maybe if they said something worth listening to they wouldn't need to rely on that.

Democrats don't want to take the chance that the only radio news network in rural America might go away, because then those people might get their news from somewhere else and - gasp - hear a different opinion!

The Left can't stomach that possibility.

We shouldn't have to pay so that liberals can ensure that the only news parts of our country hear is THEIR PROPAGANDA.

We need Congress to say "no more" to funding these networks.

P.S. - Since Senator DeMint has proposed his legislation to defund the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the left has been CLAMORING for it to be rejected. THIS IS A GOOD THING. It has forced the left to show the American people that they learned NOTHING from the November elections and that they have NO INTEREST in cutting spending.

Now is the time to shine the light on their ignorance!

Send your Faxes to Congress NOW, and demand they cut the cord on NPR and PBS and force these networks to survive on their own. Don't let Congress take another dime from you to pay for liberal propaganda!
