NEVADA - WHY ARE STUDENTS GRIPING? THEY ARE NOT FAIRLY PAYING!

Dear Conservatives,

Nevada's higher education system is in a crisis and needs solutions.

Nevada’s higher education system is the most subsidized in the country.  An undergraduate degree at University of Nevada costs only $3,800 per year, with an average subsidization of $35,000. Conversely, according to College Board, an in-state undergraduate degree at 4-year universities across the nation costs students an average of $7,605 per year.

This subsidization is simply not sustainable especially with the desperate state our economy is in. Due to the grave state of Nevada’s economy and the $1 billion budget deficit, Governor Sandoval has been forced to make budget cuts, including cuts in higher education, in order to get Nevada’s economy back on track and foster much-needed business and job growth.

http://www.kintera.org/TR.asp?a=oiKTL3PPKnJWIfK&s=9pIML2NzGaIJKXMDKrF&m=9eJMKWNuFeKPK5LAFP also knows that our college students are the future of our great state. They are the business leaders, policy makers and above all, job creators need to be a part of the solution to our current economic crisis.

It is important to have an open and honest conversation about the major fiscal and higher education challenges Nevada is facing AND propose solutions to rectify them.

That is why we are hosting two townhall style events, to discuss possibilities to rectify our current situation.

The rhetoric is largely negative but we can come to together to make some real and positive changes for our state. This is an opportunity to influence our future – don’t pass it up!

Our first event will be Tuesday, March 22nd at 5:00 PM at the University of Las Vegas. The townhall will be on the Second Floor of the Student Union Room 208C. Our second event will be held on Tuesday, March 29th at the University of Reno. Additional event details are forthcoming.

Whether you’re a student, teacher, parent, community member, or concerned citizen of the state of Nevada, it is important you come! These townhalls are about the future of our state – getting Nevada back on the path to prosperity and ensuring that we provide a sound education and future for our students and ourselves.
We hope that you will come to this event and please bring your family, friends, and coworkers. We look forward to hearing from you and working together to provide solutions for Nevada.
