LIBERAL POWER GRAB TO WEAKEN U.S. CONSTITUTION

From the Desk of:
David Martin, Executive Vice President
Media Research Center

February 8, 2011
Conservatives,

Right after the Tucson massacre, liberals in Congress didn’t bother to wait for the evidence to surface before they declared the Tea Party and conservatives responsible. Most notably, Rep. Jim Clyburn pressed public officials to “rethink parameters of free speech.”
Days later, even after it was clear that no link existed between shooter Jared Loughner and the Tea Party or conservative talk radio, liberals in both the government and the media tried to capitalize on tragedy with calls to restore the so-called “Fairness” Doctrine. As we know, that would undermine free speech and, as Michelle Malkin says, allow liberals to “regulate their opponents’ discourse out of existence.”

The Media Research Center has long documented the liberal media’s subversive push for a return to the Fairness Doctrine as a means to silence conservatives.  Our Free Speech Alliance was specifically created and launched to give citizens and organizations an opportunity to stand united attempts to outlaw conservative speech.

Back in December, despite Congress and the courts telling them no, the FCC voted to assert control over the Internet for the first time in history.  On a 3-2 vote FCC commissioners chose to massively expand their reach into our lives to impose a policy of “Net Neutrality.”
The two dissenting commissioners plainly stated that this action was illegal - CNSNews.com has the full report.
CNSNews.com describes net neutrality as a “term coined by liberal activists who want the government to regulate the way ISPs do business”--claiming that unless government steps in Internet providers could discriminate against certain websites.  It is important to note that this has NEVER happened.  But the FCC feels it is necessary to illegally assert regulatory authority over the entire Internet just in case it might someday!
The liberal media have been silent on this government power grab.   The free exchange of ideas on the Internet has dealt a deadly blow to the liberal media.  It takes away their ability to dictate what is and is not news.  That’s why they’d love to see more government control of it.
Actions by rogue agencies of the executive branch, despite the courts and Congress specifically prohibiting them are more befitting banana republics with sham elections, than the United States of America.  As citizens of this great country, we cannot allow this type of government overreach and trampling of free speech to go unchallenged.
