AMEND U.S. CONSTITUTION - 'NO MORE ANCHOR BABIES'

Amendment denying birthright citizenship faces long odds
According to legal experts, Senators Rand Paul of Kentucky and David Vitter of Lousiana have very little chance of succeeding in their efforts to amend the Constitution so that babies born in this country to undocumented immigrants cannot automatically get citizenship. This resolution would amend the 14th Amendment so that only babies born in the U.S. who have at least one parent who is a legal resident, native or naturalized citizen, or an active member of the Armed Forces would automatically be U.S. citizens. Nearly four out of five – or 79 percent – of the 5.1 million children, ages 18 and younger, of unauthorized immigrants were born in this country, and thus granted citizenship and anchoring their illegal immigrant parents to the U.S. for good. Critics call this a racist act because the overwhelming majority of children born to illegal immigrant parents are Latinos and claim that if there were an influx of Europeans, this type of legislation would never be introduced.
